I hate it, but if you shake well (like in a water bottle) you don't get much of the taste, so make sure its really disolved. I usually drink gatorade too to get some more salt in my body, so I usually clean out the foul after taste. Tastes disgusting, but I've been using the protein powder stuff after every workout and I'm up 6 lbs this past month. (I'm trying to gain weight, that is, muscle weight of coarse)

I need to gain weight as well, I really have to try and suffer through this crap. I wanted to have a glass of it in the morning, and then one before and after a workout in the afternoon.

ISO XP Chocolate is the best tasting protein powder ever! I actually enjoy them so much I have to stop myself else I would have 10 a day.

I don't know if this helps, but I've made this change to my diet:

- recommend protein powder - all in one drink, immediately after a workout
- drink juice rather than water (I don't drink soda, I might have soda 5x's a year... max)
- 2 tbsp of canola/olive oil (apperently helps absorb proteins or something like that)
- outside of your 3-4 meals a deal, try and fit in 2 mini meals in between. Usually a sandwich or fruit is great

Since I started that diet, I'm up about 10 lbs, but I'm having trouble gaining more mass than 10. I've been changing up my routine to work a little more on building muscle rather then endurance type workouts. But with this diet and my workout routine, other than injuries, I feel great.

Have you thought about adding creatine?

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

I get unflavoured unsweetened protein powder and put it in my blender with whole milk and frozen fruit. Tastes fine.

Keep in mind that as you increase weight, you'll need to continue to increase the calories you consume. If you keep eating the same amount, you'll plateau.

I googled up creatine,

Quote:
Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid that occurs naturally in vertebrates and helps to supply energy to muscle.
Do you buy it in a powder or something? Specialty store, a MEC, pharmacist or organic type place? That could REALLY help my endurance, which isn't as great as I want to be.

Dumb question, calories arn't the same as carbs right?

I try and have a good amount of carbs before a workout, usually 2 grilled cheese sandwiches + 1 cup of milk + 1 fruit or salad before a workout. Protein powder water + gatorade is my post workout drink.

Perhaps I'm missing calories which is why I'm having trouble putting on more weight.

Powder, yes. There is a ton of info on creatine out there. I am not an expert, so I'll defer to those who know more than me.

I have bought it at Costco, but you'll likely find it at any of those stores you listed.

How has it helped you and made you feel? Work well?

I'd imagine you use it in your workout water/gatorade right?

Admittedly, I don't take it very often. Which is probably the reason it hasn't worked for me. You have to cycle it. You take X amount in week one, X amount in weeks 2-3, and X amount in weeks 4-5...or something like that. And then you go off of it. And then start again. That is a very rudimentary way to describe it.

I have taken it with water, but that changes the taste of the water and it's difficult to dissolve it. My favorite was to put it in a fruit smoothie.

I really should get into it full time. From all that I've read, it has great benefits.

Oh great, so I'll be carrying around 4 bottles now lol. (I usually have 1L of water, 1L of gatorade, 500mL of protein powder dissolved in water)

Thanks for the info

I don't see any reason why you can't dissolve the creatine into the protein powdered water, but you might want to look into that. It is also recommended that you drink a lot of water when taking creatine.

Right. Food is either carbs, protein, or fat. Calories are the amount of energy in the food.

I've read that carbs aren't the best thing to have before lifting weights. You'd be better off having those carbs after your workout.

After I workout I have about 60 grams of protein powder blended with a couple cups of frozen fruit and a couple cups of milk.

Sounds like it. Use Fitday to keep track. Try to eat more then 18 times your body weight in calories.

I would look into Kre-Alkalyn pills instead of Creatine. You don't have to cycle it because it doesn't have the same acid content as Creatine. It is basically Creatine broken down for you already so your body doesn't have to sort out the waste.

The nice thing is it is in two simple pills take one 30 min before a workout and right after your workout. There is no loading period, no cycling and is just as cheap as Creatine.

If you take 1g of Kre-Alkalyn your body will ingest 1g however with Creatine you take 5g and your body uses about 2g and the rest goes to waste.

I've never heard of that before HOOT, is it suggested to have the same benefits as creatine? Pills sound a whole lot simpler to me than powder.

Dumb question #2 since I never really followd my diet until this year, what kind of foods can I eat to get more calories?

Hoot - do you use Kre-Alkalyn? Can you tell me how it helped you or made you feel?

Thanks to the replies for both (I'm running out of Thanks)
