15 years isn't that long to suffer... stay with it, we need to suffer more.

It'll be more rewarding when the Jays get good

God, I hope so. Tell Ballsile to get on this instead of the Coyotes.

I'll be a bit surprised if they actually use this money next year. They'll sign another $3 million catcher and a $4million shortstop, I'm guessing. This strategy has worked well in recent years. Aaron Hill must be kicking himself for signing with this gong show when he did and now finding himself stuck in the black hole that Halladay has spent his career in.

I really need a secondary team to cheer for in the MLB...so as long as Halladay doesn't end up with the NYY, I think I'll just tag along with him.

You're joking right?

A fan (the reason Rios gets paid to play) who happens to be a little kid wants a quick autograph. Instead of spending two seconds signing it he just ignores and walks past this kid.

Then he goes on to swear at the fan calling him a bum while this kid is still around. Very classless move considering Rios' background he should be thankful for people like this kid else he wouldn't be hoping into that Benz.

I thought that fan called him out in a fair fashion considering his play and the way he acted towards that kid. Every time I watch it I laugh about how childish Rios gets near the end.

Weird. I met Alex last summer in Minneapolis and he was great. Signed autographs, talked baseball, and even took a couple pictures with my Grandma, who has been a Jays fan since the 80's. Seemed like he genuinely enjoyed chatting with us for the five or so minutes we got with him.

No. He was mean to a kid once. He also dropped some balls and forgot how to base run a couple of times. He is a terrible defender who gets a k in every at bat. Thank god he was waived, he is a worse person than he is a ballplayer.

Well, one of the rules (for me anyway) is that when you get to this level, you cannot turn it off. Ever. Especially for kids. You're nice to them all of the time.

Howie Meeker talked about it in his biography. Asked if he ever felt like turning down an autograph, he replied that yeah, he felt like that on lots of occasions. But he remembered back to when he was a kid and Busher Jackson was more than happy to provide him with one when he was a little busy.

Ever hear of Iginla walking past anyone?

Pretty much sums Alex Rios up! You should write his biography!

Although you left out has a terrible batting stance and is uncoachable!

You've never been at this level. How could you have a rule?

Rios sucked that day, and was having a bad couple of games, but there is NO excuse for a fan to turn on him. Maybe he was pissed and started to waiver and would have turned around to give the kid an autograph right before he got in the car, but that loser fan decided to start dumping on him. The fan was way more of a ###### in that video than Rios. He is human, not a robot, I probably would have told the fan off too.

Edit: I dont care who you are, if you claim to be a fan of a team, then you support the team, especially in front of your kids. This a-hole just taught his kids right there, that it is ok to trash your heroes as soon as they start struggling.

Father = ######
Rios = dumbass for giving in to ######.

Of note, a lot of collectors bribe kids to go get autographs for them.

The quality of person doesn't change based on how good an athlete you are. You are both fooling yourself and destined for disappointement if you look at every pro athlete and go "well Jerome would have done it differently".

Just curious, why does that expectation start once you become a pro? Why not for anyone else?

His comments were not made because he was struggling, they were made because he didn't spend 10 seconds to sign a piece of paper for a child fan. This whole thing never happens if Rios acts like a pro and gives the kid an autograph.

Bob McCown weighs in on the Rios issue.

Quote:
With a team that wasn't going to compete in 2009, Wells and Rios were shopped, but the reason there were no takers was the exact reason why they were on the market. Big contracts. It seems likely that both wound up on waivers last week, although we may never know about Wells. But when the White Sox put in a claim on Rios, the Blue Jays had to be both surprised and delighted. Here was an unexpected opportunity to get out from under a contract that had become an albatross around their neck.
For three days they tried to get the White Sox to throw something into the deal, but when that failed, letting Rios go was still a no-brainer. Chicago gets the player but with it they inherit the contract. Toronto, on the other hand, saves more than $9million next season and more in subsequent years.

Sorry Jays fans, here we go again with the Yankee HRs in late innings.
