Good for the government for not bringing him back. He needs to serve his penalty there, instead of coming home and getting a quick release.

And laughably

Yeah, prisons supposed to be hard, especially for drug smugglers who help ruin other peoples lives.

I don't see what the problem of serving an American prison sentence is. It can't be that bad can it? It's the U.S., not Mexico or Brazil or Kenya or Afghanistan. Coming back to Canada would also mean Canadian taxpayers pay for his stay also. There are probably people living in Mexico or Brazil or Kenya or Afghanistan that are NOT in prison that would love to eat so well.

Sheila Holmes (the smuggler's wife, for those who don't feel like reading) is clearly a racist - she prefers that her husband fellate natives in a Canadian pen, rather than blacks or Mexicans in US. Yeah, "rice and beans" - nice try, racist.

Hmmm.

NDP - lets change our name, maybe then people will think we arent bat- crazy.

NDP - people who break the laws in other countires should be brought back to Canada so that Canadian taxpayers can pay to imprison them because criminals have rights to.

NDP - Still bat- crazy.

Stuff like this makes me what to vomit.

Poor Holmes doesn't like the living conditions of the prison he is serving time in. If you don't like the conditions of prison life don't do the freaking crime!

I'm a pretty left-leaning guy, but the NDP is a real head scratcher sometimes. The law seems pretty well layed out. There's a reason you don't smuggle drugs into other countries. They tend to not let you out. Are the lessons of Vince Vaughn's 1998 epic "Return to Paradise" completely lost?

On a side note, I figured the states would jump at the opportunity to export a convict. I thought all the prisons tend to have overflow problems ... perhaps I'm watching too many prison shows on National Geographic.

He is only given rice and beans? The barbarians!

Next thing you know the NDP will be asking us to negotiate with the Taliban to stop terrorizing and oppressing their peoples.

And once a week they get cabbage. Beans and cabbage, that place must reek of a$$, it is cruel and unusual punishment.

Well, that cinches it . . . . . I don't want to go to prison because I detest beans.

Somehow I doubt that they only get rice and beans. It is the US and even though it is prison there are rules and I am sure one is that they have to have a proper diet.

I am glad that the gov is sticking to their guns on this, I think if you travel to another country and break their laws you should get their punishments. Don't come crying back to us. The only time I think that the Canadian government should step in is when the punishment is out in left field (a woman stoned to death for showing bare legs) or it is not a fair trial.

This place is a minimum low security prison for minor offenders and aliens, some inmates even get their own housing instead of cells.

Check out the services:

It provides voluntary programs and services which will help prepare inmates to return to their local communities and provide for their well being while at the facility. Includes. Educational offerings include GED, Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, computer training and labs and law and general libraries. Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous offer substance abuse and addiction counseling. Life skills are taught in anger and stress management, budgeting, banking, personal hygiene, securing housing and victim awareness. Employment assistance and training includes resume writing, job search strategies, application assistance and interview techniques. and Also On-the-job training opportunities will be available in food and laundry services, barbering, warehouse duties, library clerks and classroom tutors.

I'm sure that place can afford some...

SPAM for the beans!

A quick google shows this place is pretty much a resort compared to something like an American Supermax prison.
