Funny wording in there: "This year would have been the inaugural season for the Flames' new AHL squad, the Abbotsford Heat, which moved from Quad Cities, Ill."
Reads like losing the Wranglers finishes the Heat as well.

I can't say I'm all that surprised. Never heard anything all summer about the Wranglers, apart from Gulutzan leaving the team, and looking on their website a few weeks ago they had Chris Kreizner signed and that was it so far as news was concerned. Thanks Wranglers for your support of the Calgary Flames... does this mean we are going to lose our Calgarypuck Wranglers thread icon?

Well the Salmon Kings just lost a few ticket sales from me.
I would think the driving and flying time between Vegas/Quad and Vegas/Van would be pretty close in distance. Oh well...

Me too. I have no desire to go cheer on the never-will-bes of the Canucks prospect core.

Well, from their standpoint, it probably makes some sense. Being affiliated with Phoenix could draw more interest as it's geographically closer. More people from Phoenix probably visit Vegas than people from Calgary or Abbotsford.

maybe we wont have one this year.. remember the years wehre we had to share an AHL team with Carolina before we moved to Omaha and became the Knights... or at least i think it was Carolinas AHL team.

The Flames suspended the Saint John Flames in 2003, and reached an agreement to send some of their prospects to the Lowell Lock Monsters, Carolina's affiliate, in 2004 and 2005 before resurrecting our dormant franchise in 2006 in Omaha.
As it is, given we only send four or five guys down to the ECHL in any given year, we could get away with simply loaning those players to various ECHL teams as necessary.

Currently all the ECHL teams have affiliates, however a number of them are split so for the upcoming season the Flames may have to look into a partnership. Next season the Columbia Inferno are returning to the ECHL with a new arena and could be a potential partner at that point.

They can get acquainted with Coyotes prospects before the big team moves there in five years.
