Not to be a prick or anything, but do you really have to ask a message board what you should do?

Be a man and figure it out

If it was me, I would go back. Does the reciept indicate who the cashier was?

Cover yourself with the extra vaseline and then go watersliding. I bet you'd go pretty fast.

Nothing like being a prick there.

There seems to be a variety of opinions. I was curious as to what others would say. Why do you have a problem with that?

At the bottom of the receipt there are a bunch of id codes:
Store # ID
Terminal # ID
Operator # ID
Transaction # ID

I guess operator ID would be the cashier's code?

Would you feel bad for the cashier if the alarm thingies went off as you left the store with the unscanned item? "No, really, I didn't even look at how much she charged me!"

Don't worry about it. Shrinkage is an expected part of doing business for companies of this size. They don't really like it, of course, but they budget for the fact that mistakes will happen from time to time. So you really aren't hurting the company, and you aren't hurting the cashier.

If it was a small store, the aforementioned ma and pa shop, or if it was a situation where I knew the person who took my money would be screwed (i.e.: at a restaraunt), then I'd go back.

If you return it you might just make it to the wonderful world of make-belief some folks call Heaven.

But if you keep it, you can sell all that vaseline at junior high schools and come out way on top....
