Question Child baptism party turns into the Grandpa & Pregnant Mom being Tasered by police

Not sure what to make of all this. Charged with public intoxication in thier own back yard

Quote:
MANASSAS, Va. - Prince William County Police responded to a noise complaint at a child's baptism party. By the time they left, a grandfather and a pregnant woman had been Tasered.
Quote:
Family members say it was supposed to be a happy day to celebrate the baptism of the two little boys. Home video captures the party moments before police arrive following a noise complaint. You can hear children's laughter above the sound of music.
Quote:
The pregnant mother of the baptized boys was Tasered, too. The family says the woman tried to help Rodriguez, who was on the ground. She was charged with assaulting a police officer.

"They Tasered her in the back. She didn't assault the officer. She was assaulted by officer," said Edgar, Jr. who was just steps away from his father.

The family calls it excessive force, and they say all of it happened in front of a yard full of children.

Admittedly, I don't know all the details, but Edgar Sr. acted stupidly.

No matter how you slice it, the police look like ###### bags with this incident. Why did we give these guys tasers?

Why, because Edgar Jr said so, and we have a 30 second clip of the incident?

So they don't have to rely on a billy club. Or in certain situations a gun?

None of us were there (except for Jiri possibly) and the truth is always somewhere in the middle, likely the guy was being a tool and the police officers overreacted to the situation for one reason or another and judging from the very short video clip the cop in question likely wouldn't have been able to do much in a physical altercation anyways.

The taser is a valuable tool, but it doesn't do much good when it isn't being used properly and it gets a bad name as a result.

All we're hearing is the families side of the story, and very little from the police, I'd like to hear more about the police interpretation of things as well. For all we know Edgar Sr. as completely piefaced, threatened the cops and got tasered.

And Mikey, in the old days it would have been worse because instead of tasers it would have been night sticks across the skull.

Alright, all we get is the family's point of view, and I can imagine something along the lines of Edgar Sr. being totally blotto and who also doesnt understand much in the way of English, and it snowballs from there.

At the same time though, they tasered him 3 times. Furthermore they tasered a pregnant woman in the back.

It probably isnt too hard for 4 uniforms to subdue a pregnant woman without the use of a taser.

Unless those 4 are tied up with Drunky Mr. Edgar and she jumps on their back or goes for one of their guns.

Or a 55 year old man "heavily intoxicated" man. Shouldn't be too hard to get him to fall down and restrain him from there.

Yeah, it is always so easy for them, isn't it?

Oh, and I can't say I'm not surprised that there is no thread here about two Calgary police officers being injured last night after being assaulted at Virgin Fest. They even used a taser too...how dare they!

Calm down there, who said anything about 'always'?

I said (in this case) it should be easy four 4 trained sober guys to take down one 55 year old guy that they themselves describe as heavily intoxicated.

And the plot thickens.....

Quote:
Dorothy Johnson, who lives next door to Rodriguez, said the party wasn't loud.

"It was a nice family outing," Johnson said. "I don't know why the police made a big thing of it. ... I thought it was just wrong." She added that regardless of how loud a party is, police are often called to the block by a complaining neighbor.
Quote:
Another source said Elias' husband has been more concerned about the deportation proceedings now pending against Elias, who is being held on a warrant from Immigration and Customs Enforcement for being a suspected illegal immigrant.
Quote:
Some news reports claimed Elias was pregnant, but according to police, that's not the case.

God it's patronizing to get told to calm down on an internet message board.

I am getting tired of these police related threads where people have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

What about this comment from you......."Oh, and I can't say I'm not surprised that there is no thread here about two Calgary police officers being injured last night after being assaulted at Virgin Fest. They even used a taser too...how dare they!"

Fair enough, and while it wasn't directed at you, I stand by the comment. I'm not surprised. Two Calgary cops get assaulted last night, and nothing on CP about it. I really don't see the point in always bringing up these little incidents (usually from the USA) each time they hit the news (again, not directed at you, but everyone who posts them).

Then either don't open the police related threads or actually make some counter-arguments to what you disagree with. Accusing people of having no idea of what they're talking about and making sarcastic remarks with little to no discussion of the topic at hand accomplishes nothing other than flame wars. And to that end, this my last comment that doesn't pertain to the thread topic.

It's not surprising that a couple of cops might get assaulted at a music festival. It is surprising that a grandfather and pregnant mom would get tasered at a baptism.
