Default wearing glasses is awkward

so finally i bite the bullet and get my eyes checked out, and got my first pair of glasses yesterday. i love the clarity of my vision with them on, but my eyes feel like they're straining heavily when wearing them, walking around outside is the worst. how long does it take to get used to wearing them? will the discomfort eventually subside?

i wish i just had enough money for lasik. i've never liked wearing even sunglasses and there's no way i'm gonna stick my finger in my eye every morning with contacts

I couldn't stand wearing glasses so I switched to contacts. Loving it ever since. But when I did, I eventually got used to wearing them. Takes a bit.

Takes at least a week, if not more to get used to glasses or contacts.

If you don't like glasses, go for contacts.

I've been wearing them for almost 2 years now, and I absolutely love them.

After a while you won't even notice you're wearing them most of the time. Unless you're playing sports and get a good sweat going. Then you become painfully aware of your glasses again.

But that doesn't mean contact lenses aren't the way to go. Much better than wearing glasses.

I wear contacts when doing physical activities or going sight-seeing. Otherwise I just wear glasses. I thought I would never be able to put on contacts, I hated the idea of touching my eye... it freaked me out. But I got used to it quickly and now it is second nature.

Yeah it usually takes a few days to get used to it, though for first time wearing probably longer.

Frames are a big part of it. I try and stick to Oakleys because they are both stylish and functional.

^^ Me too, I don't like the long arms, maybe they aren't fitted properly. I cant wear a hat with my glasses anymore. For that reason, I rarely wear them, $1000 well spent.

I've been wearing glasses since grade 4. It took about a month but I did get used to thewm on my nose. If they are still bugging you, have the nosepieces re-adjusted. The place where you bought the glasses should do that for free.

If you're like me, within 20 years, you'll have glasses as thick as Coke bottles and they won't hurt a bit

I would love lasik except that I have almost zero problem with my contacts. Sometimes I wish they were more annoying to me so I had a reason to go for the surgery.

I've been wearing glasses since I was two. Takes me a couple to days to get used to a new perscription.

Tried contacts once, gave up on them. Worn glasses almost every day of the last 28 years. The only time I haven't worn them in a day is when I've busted them, and couldn't get to a glasses store right away (The weird thing is that I've always busted them when I've been away for a weekend or something). That's happened twice that I can remember.

I've been wearing them since I was about 5. I wore contacts for all of junior high and high school, but got away from it in University and now I can't be bothered to go back. My prescription means I get the best vision from gas permeable lenses (the hard kind) and it really just is irritating to my eyes.

A new prescription takes me a day to get used to probably.

so you don't feel them at all when they're in? what if the area around your eye is itchy and you scratch it, does it screw up the placement of the contact?

may have to give them a try, not sure if i'll ever get used to always wearing something on my face

I've been wearing glasses since I was 4 years old. I was also told years ago that I can't wear contacts and lasik won't help me either. Keeping them clean is a bit of a pain but other than that I don't mind wearing them. In fact it would feel strange not having them on.

Yeah that sucks. I wore a hat all the time, and now with glasses I hate it. But they make my vision perfect so I wear them, until I can get surgery. They said I was too young and my eye sight would probably change, so I wear glasses.

If they're in properly, you don't notice them. It's like you have nothing there at all. But sometimes an eyelash or chunk of dirt can make things uncomfortable. Scratching your eye can move the lens around, but normally won't. And even if it does, blinking a couple times usually gets it back into place.

The biggest pain with contacts is being diligent about taking them out at night and replacing them when you're supposed to. You don't want to get scolded by your optometrist, right Hesla? But maintaining contacts has become exponentially easier than it was 15 years ago when I first started wearing them.

get the focus night and days. they go in, you forget about them for a month, then pop them out. those are the ones i wear and I love them, I had the same phobia about sticking a finger in my eye everyday but when i learned of night and days I signed up for contacts and have been using them for the last 4 years.
