I am pretty sure I would look a lot like GSP if I worked out as much as he did (a few times a day for hours on end, for years on end) and ate what he ate (lean carbs before, lots of protein aftrer, nothing else?). It is not rocket science.
BJPenn has just never had the work ethic to do what a lot of the other fighters do.
GSP weighs all of 170lbs. (184 when not cutting for a fight.)
A friend of mine trains with a guy who is a trainer for a few UFC fighters. According to him it is not who does steroids, it is who gets caught. The amount of training these guys do, and the injuries they need to recover from, almost everyone in the sport is taking some sort of performance enhancement.
GSP is not using riods as Claeren said anyone could look like that with enough work and eating right.
He has people that wake him up, push him hard every day and make/plan meals for him every few hours. It is a lot easier to wake up at 6am when you know you are going to be the one who is just yelling at the other guy to do push ups, so finding motivation for him is easy because he pays someone to do it.
Look at how small his arms and cheat are. If he did roids and worked out like he did he would be much bigger. He looks more lean than muscular to me.

No idea...but just looking at the guy, I wouldn't be surprised.
+1
I wouldn't be surprised either... I don't think it's BJ place to say it (I haven't read the context of his conversation) but if he's right.... could be a different story

I don't understand why people constantly make that mistake.
Again: cyclists have been hammered with drug testing. It did (and probably still does) occur often in that sport. Cyclists, with the amount of work they put their legs through, are far from bulky.
BJ Penn looks like a guy that takes roids and forgets to work out after.
Yeah, it's been mentioned already, but I think the people who wouldn't be surprised if GSP were using steroids probably aren't aware of his insane work ethic.
Personally, I WOULD be surprised if he were using steroids. Yeah, the dude is in shape, but he definitely works his butt off to get where he is today.

Recovery time after workouts, recovery from injury, increased endurance, etc... are all benefits from steroids. An incredible work ethic just enhances the benefits.

Yeah that must be it, or maybe they are just saying they wouldn't be surprised.... doesn't mean he is or isn't just meaning that if the reports came out that he did.. I wouldn't be surprised
The funny thing about work ethic, is that steroids has nothing to do with it. People may have tagged it the easy way out, but some of the sessions and workouts these guys on it do... man are just insane

the problem that I have with Penn saying it isn't that he is using some sort of inside knowledge but just randomly speculating. He doesn't present any reason or rational behind it and with his other unfounded ranting and bitterness towards GSP it is hard to take what he says seriously.
If it turns out that it is true I am not sure why it would change anything in regards to what Penn said as he is just guessing and throwing out accusations. If he had actual reasons for thinking that then perhaps it would validate it but for now it is just sour grapes from a pathetic loser.

I do find it funny that BJ is accusing GSP and yet failed to mention Lesnar. Me thinks it might be bitterness that BJ keeps losing to GSP.
Sure if it makes you feel better.
Fact is...looking at the guy I can see where its possible, adding to that the amount of injuries these guys go through, and the fact steroids speed the healing process, it certainly isnt out of the realm of possibility.
