Default Micro USB - Corporate Greed brings end to MILF fantasy encounters!

I'm so annoyed. Buying a new cell phone, I picked one that had micro usb connector. Thought that meant I could use by old chargers, etc. I did not realize that micro usb is a whole new standard replacing mini usb! Why, what was wrong with mini??? I guess it is just a way to get everyone to buy new chargers etc. /rant.

Why not just by a $2 adapter?

Get used to micro USB. It's being pushed as the new standard for mobile device chargers.

More of a PITA factor than a money thing. Mini USB cables are everywhere. I have them laying around every where, at work, home, friend's house, parent's house, etc. Always easy to borrow someone else's charger if need be, or hook into someone else's pc,etc.

I'm all for standards. But how can these companies claim to be all earth friendly with this standard, when they made a new standard, instead of basing the standard on the connector already used by like 85% of devices?? Now 100% of people are going to have to get new chargers, etc, instead of the 15% who used to have to replace proprietary connections. I'm sure in 2-3 years nano usb will be the standard.

Micro USB looks a lot more flimsy too.

Just buy a powered USB hub and one of each of the size of cables you need, and charge your devices that way. Never worry about wall warts again. I even have a nifty Energizer USB charger for doing up AA and AAA's NiMH batts for devices that need them.

I have to agree with the OP- why do we need a format change? Other than a chance to get people to buy more accessories.

A while ago I found a cell phone outside the Saddledome. It was dead, but I was able to power it up using a mini USB connector that I had sitting at home. Because of that I was able to track down the person by calling the number stored under "Mom."

Precede that paragraph with "I know you won't believe this, and I never thought it would happen to me, but...." and it sounds like the opening paragraph of a Penthouse Forums letter.

Wait... they are getting rid of the mini? WTF for?
I FINALLY had all my devices using one cable. I have just the one extension cable on my desk with a mini on the end for my various cameras, gps, blackberry and other items. Now I'll need two cables soon? GTFO

Good grief...from wikipedia: The Micro-USB connector was announced by the USB-IF on January 4, 2007[14] and the Mini-A and Mini-AB USB connectors were deprecated at the same time

The mini connector that you are all so infatuated with has been declared obsolete, by the consortium that sets the standards, for two and a half years now. Be glad that manufacturers are continuing to adhere to a single standard at all.
