You have to wonder if there had been one person in that car, if he would have been charged with manslaughter, which is almost never used in vehicle fatalities.

I'm not a lawyer, but he'll get concurrent terms... it wont be close to 50 and i would suggest it will be less than 1/5 of that, plus time served, plus fed time is 2/3 or so....

Driver in fatal Calgary rear-end crash set for sentencing. Daniel Tschetter to be sentenced tomorrow.

Quote:

Crown prosecutor Jonathan Hak and defence lawyer Balfour Der will present their sentencing arguments to provincial court Judge Bruce Fraser in the scheduled all-day sentencing hearing. Fraser is also expected to hear as many as 10 victim impact statements from family members of the five deceased people.

Der also indicated after the May 7 convictions that Tschetter would make a statement to court before being sentenced.

Fraser will then either deliver his sentence or adjourn to consider all of the evidence, lawyer's submissions and victim statements.

Good, this really needs to be closed off.

I don't have much faith in the system, so we'll see what happens. I expect a less then 1 year sentence.

Chances of the judge issuing a sentence tomorrow? Slightly less than Heatley accepting a trade to Edmonton.

You may be right on that. Probably until he could get a bail hearing

What sickens me the most is the attitude amongst many Hutterite's that drinking and driving is okay.

There have been a TON of accidents, and it doesn't change a thing.

Really not too sure how relevant that is too the case. Schetter was a hute and broke away many years ago. I'm not here to defend either side, but I doubt drinking and driving is condoned any more by hutes than the rest of of society. I'd say your likely treading pretty close to a racist type statement.

Honest question: Are Hudderites considered a "race"?

Edit: ...and to keep it on topic - I hope this POS serves whatever time he has bunked up with some mean SOB who lost a loved one to drunk driving and takes a "liking" to Tschetter.
