Since you guys obviously know about bikes, what about this 2001 SV650 S I want to buy. It was in an accident last year in which is was not written off, and 4600 of new parts went into it. It has 14,200 KM, and the guy wants $4100 for it. Good deal as long as it passes inspection? It is a stock bike.

Edit- Can a mod get rid of that screen stretching picture by any chance?

I ride a 2008 Suzuki S50 and the wife rides a 2009 Suzuki S40. They are both in the Boulevard series.

This is our first year riding, and we love these bikes. As beginners, the power isn't so much that we'll get ourselves into trouble, but not so little that we'd be bored.

After doing our license test on the 250 bikes from the school, we both agreed that we'd quickly outgrow a 250. Atleast in the cruiser world, and neither one of us are really interested in sport bikes at this point.

You are correct. My VFR 800 was actually an '01. I actually had to look through my old registrations to figure it out. The 98-01's I felt was the best balanced bike ever. And the whine of the gear driven cams was very cool on that bike.

Honestly, I only put about 1500 kms on the V-rod, and wasn't a huge fan from the onset. Every time I got on it I knew that even if I pulled up next to a $9000 600cc sportbike my ass was grass. It was a lot of dough to be sorta quick but not really fast. Also the riding position didn't agree with me. My upper back really bothered me for some reason after about an hour on it. And lastly, the whole Harley thing is something I will never go back to. It like the ultimate ###### club with a bunch of guys standing around trying to justify their slow rides with repeating the phrase "theres no substitute for cubic inches" over and over. I always used to get in arguments when I would point out the VTX at 1800cc, the Victory bikes and the Yamaha 1600 Roadstar twin and say " So by your logic, the big bore metric cruisers are better because they have more cc's" Never made me a lot of HD friends. I am a bike enthusiast, most HD guys are image enthusiasts.

I know next to nothing about bikes but I think the Boulevard series has some amazing looks. Looks aside, are you happy overall with the two you have?

We added OEM windshields and saddlebags to the bikes and it really upped the looks of the bikes.

Don't have pics yet...kinda hard to get one today too

Love the performance of the bikes. They each have their own issues. The S40 is a single and backfires, not too often, but it backfires.
The S50 has a break squeal on the front...drives me nuts.

We love the bikes and most likely will end up sticking with the Boulevard series of bikes for the rest of our riding careers.

SV650's are a very neat bike, and super fun to ride. I dated a girl that rode one and I always used to flog the crap out of it any time she would let me. That bike was so easy to wheelie on too because of the bottom end torque it had and trhe short wheelbase. Riding a busa, picking up the front wheel gets pretty sketchy because of the length of it, and the fact that your doing about 170 in second gear at redline, so i tend to behave myself on it a little more and respect the beast. SV is also Awesome starter bike too. You can get a good season or two out of it before it starts feeling slow.

Price wise that sounds pretty good then? It seems to have low KMs for that year, but my concern is the accident. If it passes inspection, I'll probably buy it.

Default Sv650

I just bought a 2003 sv650, awesome bike. I owned a 2002 Suzuki bandit before that.
One thing to think about if you are going to buy an SV is that they switched from a carburetor to fuel injection in 2003. They also changed some of the fairing, giving it a more aggressive look. Other than that, the V-Twin motor is excellent.

I always liked the VFR's. My buddies very old man has one and its a solid bike. The single sided swingarm looks awesome too.

I just have to chime in on the whole Harley thing. I agree with you 100%. I know a few guys that ride Harleys that are cool guys; that is until you get them near their hog. Then they are too awesome to ride with the sportbike crowd. I dont get it; a guy on a Harley will not even look at, let alone wave at a guy on a sportbike. The whole Harley mystique baffles me... I would NEVER spend the kind of money it takes to own one when the Japanese manufacturers have far superior machines at a fraction of the cost.

To each their own, and if they are happy, then awesome. But I cant help but snicker when grandpa grey beard pulls up next to me at a light on his softtail and barks the throttle over and over. Ya... ok.

Agreed on the single sided swing arm. From the open side, the bike looks ultra high tech, even the older mid 90's ones.

I think part of the reason the HD guys never want to ride with anyone on anything Japanese is that they know they can't keep up. Thats how i felt when I had my 2 HD's. I usually ended up riding alone because I knew any of my buddies machines would leave me behind, or I would end up holding them back once we hit a few twists.

If I could have any bike on the planet however it would be this....

Any gear head looks at this picture and says..."That thing actually could run??" Square/oval pistons with 8 valves per...

Honda NR750.... Oval piston V4 32 valve, all carbon uber mega machine from the early 90's all at a cool $50,000 1992 US dollars and only 300 in existence. I actually was lucky enough to see one of these run in person when I was in Florida about 5 years ago. Some dude just pulled up in front of the hotel I was staying at and got off it like it was some everyday whatever bike. Meanwhile I couldn't believe I was actually looking at one of them. Definitely my dream bike. The bike broke so much ground for a lot of the stuff we ride now. By today's standards it would be considered heavy and sluggish, but I would still give anything to own something so rare, exotic, and pioneering. The thing just had this weird mystique when you were near it.

Honda is rumoured to be coming out with a new VFR1200 with 200HP at the crank but for me the 800cc is just fine.

That new VFR looks cool... looks very similar to the 1000.

At least they didnt butcher the aesthetics of the bike like Kawi did with their ZX-14, which looks like it was designed in the mid 80's.

And those Honda V4's are just so awesome. They sound so sweet... and Im with ya Pylon on the NR750. 16 valves, V4... that thing must have buzzed like nothing else.

Myself I would kill to ride one of the Honda GP500 2 strokes, before they were phased out for the 4 strokes.

But if I could have any bike, Id prolly have to go for one of these two...

Britten V1000

Or Id settle for a Ducati Desmosedici GP9

Forgot to mention that if I didn't have wife restrictions in my bikes, I totally would have gone for the SV650...

What are you guys paying for insurance? I'm 26 years old, first time rider, and all the quotes I am getting are around 600 dollars for the year, full coverage.

This is my ride, a 1984 Honda Gold Wing with matching trailer. The Wing is the Cadillac of motorcycles, probably the most reliable bike on the road. The missus and I are in Vernon, B.C., right not on a week-long trip. We trailered the bike out and are exploring the area.

Sounds good to me as here in BC, with ICBC, I pay double that and I've been riding for years.

Ducs are f'n sick. I am so tempted to pull the trigger on a used S4R monster I can pick up cheap right now. Just don't know if I want to borrow for a bike right now. My philosophy has always been never borrow for toys. If you can't pay cash for it, you can't afford it. Plus I don't ride my 1 bike enough let alone a second.

From the couple times though I have had a chance to straddle a Ducati you isntantly figure out why they are so stupid expensive. Fast... kinda, comfortable... sorta, but talk about mystique, the exhaust even smells expensive. And don't start me on trellis frames. Regardless of how archaic and inefficient they are, nothing looks better on a motorcycle....art on wheels. The only other thing that has kept me away in the past is that stupid desmodromic valve setup that should be renamed the "walletdraindromic" valve system for the constant adjustments they need. But couldn't agree more the Italians make the most beautiful bikes in the world.

I give you, Sex on wheels the Ducati S4R Monster.

I had a 67 250 Ducati scrambler back in the day. Loved the sound of the little thumper but with it's electronics, it was definitely a love hate relationship but than again if I had the money for a new monster.

Awesome machine, my 3rd Hayabusa and 9th motorcycle. I do have a huge soft spot for VFR's though. Best all round bike ever. The 98-2002's were georgeous machines and if I can find a nice one I would snap it up in a heart beat for a daily commuter. But the Busa power is megaq addictive. If I could get a 2002 Tahiti blue VFR with a Gen 2 Busa engine I would be in heaven.

Over the years I have had:

1: First bike was a 1986 GS550ef
2: 92 Kawasaki ZX-6E
3: 96 VFR 750
4: 02 VFR 800
5: 03 Gen1 Hayabusa
6: 04 HD Duece
7: 05 HD V-rod
Came to my senses and realized cruisers are for losers, or at least guys that would rather stand around a parking lot in Bragg Creek and talk about riding and think they accomplished this huge feat by riding 20 minutes to get there.
8: 06 Gen1 Hayabusa with massive amounts of mods and was way to gonzo for a daily rider. ######ed fast though. Ended up dynoed at 234 rwhp.
9: 08 Gen2 Hayabusa, Gonna leave this one stock at 194 HP. Maybe a new set of cans next spring, but that's it.
That sir... is a ****ing sick bike.
