And shopping doesn't have to suck. Only shopping for certain items. I love shopping for tv's, games, stereo equipment. Shopping for clothes how ever is stupid.

Sounds like a complete failure so far. Does it have a hotel? Amusement park? Wasn't this mall supposed to have a bunch of high end stores unique to Calgary? Just looking at the tenant list it all looks pretty bland and regular. I wonder how popular it will be when people can just go to Market mall or Chinook instead. Are you guys willing to drive to Balzac to see outlet stores? I'm not even willing to drive to Deerfoot mall to checkout outlet stores!

Unless there is a significant discount on the outlet prices... maybe not. I thought there was going to be more swagger to this store but the list seems pretty darn weak.

I live in the NW so it takes about the same time to get to Balzac as it would to get to Market Mall. Chinook for me takes longer than Balzac.
But I agree, this is a huge failure. Why put outlet malls in it? Why not make it unique, add a wavepool, we don't really have one (no good ones anyway). Add another IMAX, why only Chinook?

The secret to a good shopping experience is to go to the first restaraunt your see (like Milestones or Moxies) and have a beer or two... or three. I find once I am a tad bit tipsy that I can handle the whole mall experience much more... granted you may need to have a DD.

gotta say that I'm a little disappointed in Malzac as well. It would be the closest mall to my place (other than Deerfoot) and it doesn't look to have anything that's too interesting.

No one has interest in that big arse hockey store? Where else can you find a Lucky Brand Jeans store?

It's not just a Lucky Brand store, it's a Lucky Brand Outlet store. And I think it is the only one in Canada.

There are Lucky stores across Canada now but Calgary has the only Lucky outlet in Canada.

I live a little more inward from there and it takes me only a couple more minutes to Balzac than Market mall. All those traffic lights and congestion really slows things down.

Once Stoney Tr. is open to Deerfoot, it'll be so easy for people in the far NW to get to this mall. 8-9 minutes from Crowchild to Deerfoot on Stoney Tr.

I think the economy may have impacted this to some degree...

It is just going to turn into another Deerfoot mall. All the stores with good deals will thrive and the nice stores will shut down.
I remember reading a while ago there was supposed to be a Hollister, I know the Mrs was excited about that because she loves their clothes.

It was never supposed to be anything like WEM. No one is building this type of mall in Canada anymore.
It's a big box/outlet power centre.

I don't think this mall was ever supposed to be like a WEM. They are modelling the mall more like the Premium Outlet malls down in the States, except bigger. Some of the stores may be outlet stores, but they're really nice outlet stores, and are big. I've been to the one in Toronto, and I think it's actually not that bad.

So if the grand opening is on August 18th, I'd be willing to bet that the soft opening will be on Tuesday or so.
Anyone want to head over and let us know if it's open next week?
