Todays cop thread: CPS to wear cowboy hats
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...hub=TopStories
Quote:
Police officers working in downtown Calgary will soon sport a distinctly western fashion accessory: cowboy hats. According to city officials, the new hats are both fashionable and user-friendly.
Officers walking the downtown beat cover about 12 kilometres on a shift, and the patrol extends around the clock -- from the hottest summer days to the coldest winter nights.
|
It will cost $12000??? I AM OUTRAGED!!!
But seriously though, I thought this was funny:
Quote:
When asked if the hats make officers appear less tough, Const. John Pearson said that the uniform is only a small part of the job.
"Being tough enough has more to do with the way we do our jobs than what we wear," he said.
|
Really? Are there people that are concerned that the hats will make them seem 'less tough'? If that were a problem, then I am sure the cops in England would have changed their head-gear a long time ago.

Cops may still be evil, but at least they'll be stylish.

What's the point? That's $12000 out of our pockets that could have been spent on other things. This city's spending is out of control.

Hold it...$12,000 for 65 hats? Are they bullet proof?
Don't they give those things away for free during the Stampede?

While the city will have to pony up about $12,000 for 65 hats, the company that makes them says their product lasts for a decade.
Company spokesman Brian Hanson said that the hats are interwoven with tiny barbs on each fibre, making them durable and hardy in the toughest conditions.
"They don't pull apart, and that's what makes a good hat," said Hanson.

$185 a hat is not unreasonable for something that is quality and lasts.

I hope this is a replacement to the taser. That way, anyone who gets out of hand -- justified or not -- promptly gets a sweaty cowboy hat to the throat ala a nifty kung-fu move.

haha yeah. I kept looking at Fotze's post looking for the joke but was sadly disappointed.
If you ever go for a real cowboy hat, they're over a hundred some dollars. I had a friend of mine get a pretty good cowboy hat for $300. I thought he was insane... so I guess $185 is a steal!

Question, really, is how much does a normal police hat cost? Replacing one with the other will mitigate the overall cost of this.

Check back in 5 years and see who still has their original hat.
This will become an annual expenditure.

I think that the cowboy hats will actually be quite effective in keeping 12-hours of sun per day off the neck of the officer. Its worth much more than a sick officer.
Coincidentally it works with the whole "image" thing.
All the power to them.

Some people take pride in the uniform they wear, whatever it may be. Including the hat.

It will be built by Smithbilt Hats, the same Calgary company that makes the white hat that is given to famous people that visit the city.

I hope he doesn't call this rediculous. I bet my cowboy hat cost $185 brand new, makes sense that a nice felt custom police one would cost that too (And BTW those hats are almost indestructable, I've been to war @ Nashville North as well as other bars with mine for 5 years now and it still looks as good as new, if it gets stomped on you can steam it back into shape and it can be cleaned easily too due to its black color). I also bet the current standard issue hat isn't dirt cheap either.

Maybe make them out of kevlar so they're bullet proof. Instead of the SWAT team wearing helmets, just wear these swanky cowboy hats.
Imagine it like this... SWAT busts down the door... scream' YEEEHHAAWWW'. The bad guys will be thinking wtf, be utterly confused and be taken down with little force.
I like these cowboy hats! The uses are endless
