I went and sawe the new Michael Bay extravaganza The Island, and I have to say that I liked it. I thought it looked horrible and this is coming from a guy who likes Michael Bay movies....so I wasnt expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised.....

The idea for the movie was pretty cool and with a Bay movie, you have to expect big explosions and chases and there was exactly that. So, I give it a 7.5 out of 10, nothing mind blowing, but still worth the price of admission if you dont have nothin to do.

BTW........Scarlett Johansson was smokin in this one too!!!!

I thought the Island looked really good from the ads. Glad to hear it didn't disappoint.

michael bay can definitely do some great chase scenes

ie: Ferrari vs. Hummer in The Rock
The big shootout/chase in the ridiculous Bad Boys 2(only good scene in the movie)
Will SMith running thru shops thru streets in Bad Boys

In my review of "Bad Boys 2," I called Michael Bay a cancer. Sadly, I must now retract that vicious and unfair statement. "The Island" does show Bay to have an inclination -- however slight -- toward improvement. I believe he's now graduated to "infectious disease."

Great Line.....I also liked the Dakota Fanning reference in regards to gawking at Scarletts child like character

'The Island' is the best big movie of the year so far. (A weak year fo rmovies, but still!)

Only Batman Begins comes close, and it is still miles away (I am not actually a huge action/comic book fan, just so you know where i am coming from).

Thsi movie is SO good. While definitely a bit 'hollywood' at times in action sequences it is so sincere and you become emotionally vested in the characters.

I can't believe how quickly it went by, i am so sad it is over, and i wish there was more to the story or something...

But yeah, go see it on the big screen, this is the type of movie i wish would win Oscars.

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark
when he made Pearl Harbor.

I miss you more than that movie missed the point
and that's a lot girl. And now, now you've gone away
and all I'm trying to say is Pearl Harbor sucked
and I miss you.

I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school.
He was terrible in that film.
I need you more than Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part.
He's way better than Ben Affleck and now,
all I'm trying to say is Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you.

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies.
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked just a little bit more than
I miss you.

I heard that as well -- something like "there is no way a woman sleeps in a bra, that's too fake so I don't want to wear one..."

Speaking of rumors, she also snubbed that dimwit Tom Cruise when he tried to lure her to the Scientology Wing of the crazy house. And did you hear the one about her and Benicio Del Toro? I would never link to such lurid Hollywood gossip, but I hear if you do a google search of just their first names...

I heard that too... Scarlett is the greatest!

But I think it was more she had problems with popping out of the bra, and she was fed up with it... probably a combination of both.

just saw it last night, liked it a lot.

glad to see movies made in a similar vein to the 70s sci-fi counter-culture.

it has brave scenes like lincoln's first encounter with death, the coldness of the murderers quite cutting.

and michael clarke duncan uses his 30 seconds in pretty unforgettable fashion.

a lot of people will automatically 'hate' it because it's big-budget with lots of explosions and is made by michael bay.

judge a movie on its merits, not who made it.

art is art.

leave the tarantino-emulating geekboy-ism to starbucks-fueled god-complexed-vancouverites.

this coming from a guy that went to:

a tarantino film festival BEFORE pulp fiction came out (though celeberating its impending release)

army of darkness, IN THE THEATER (man was it empty!)

the crow in the theater (equally empty)

things to do in denver when you're dead, at the globe, for eight bucks, before the monster theaters were even built and the cineplex was six bucks.

you're joking, right?

if i hadn't spent my weekly grocery bill to attend i would have walked out on that scene. kinda wish i had.

it was the same scene, like nine times over, replayed again and again and again.

this 'new breed' of action films

the rock
con air
armageddon
bad boys 2
face/off

the action scenes are laughably bad and unreal.

but the lines in those movies are good.

well, except for bad boys 2.

that scene where martin lawrence was high, was excruciatingly long and made me ashamed to be sitting there.

brutal.
