I don't mind Nicks. They have a tomato, garlic and onion that is pretty tasty when dipped in ranch dressing. Their whole wheat crust is decent too.....waaaaaaaay better than that soggy mess that Sophie's tries to pass as food. Nick's also has a huge menu of other stuff like the best damn greek salad in the city.

Olive Grove is tasty, but they don't deliver to me, so they can eff off.

Spiro's is good, but I find inconsistent with their crust. One day it's soggy, then burnt, then cooked properly.

Pizza Bob's flat out sucks for the time it takes to get to your door.

Manny's is quite good, and their rib ticklers rule. Rib ticklers and a large pizza usually show up at my door every few weeks.

Volos is still my hands down fav, but they're not open Sundays, which is my pizza day. This drives me NUTS about them, because on a lazy Sunday when I want pizza they're never open. Their meat lovers is to absolutely die for though, and their lasagna is, by far, the best thing I have ever tasted.

Yes, I love pizza.

Edit: I forgot about Grecco's!!! Right up there with Nick's and Volos.

Coco Brooks? Really? I find that they use not enough toppings, and cheap dough.

Try the Italian Bakery off Blackfoot (it's close to Coco Brooks). They make pizza, sandwiches, soup, all kinds of stuff, and use a lot of "authentic" ingredients. While you're there you can pick up 8 dozen loafs of bread for $5, just like the rest of the corner store owners in the city, and sell them off for $4 each to your friends.

Rush Hour on 8th Ave downtown
Partners on 18th St. SE

all worth the cost

For the guy asking about somewhere in the NW, Matadors in Varsity is amazing.

They are heavy handed on the cheese and toppings and have a spicy pizza sauce. Little more expensive then the rest but it is well worth it.

I agree with this. I dunno, maybe I'm not that picky of a eater. I honestly cant' really tell a lot of times between what people consider good and not good when it comes to food. Most often, when someone tells me something tastes amazing, I find it overrated, and when someone tells me something tastes awful, I find they over exaggerated. Maybe I'm just weird.

On a totally unrelated note, I find people like to cut down MacDonalds, but I absolutely love it. Is it bad for me? For sure, but its not like I eat it on a regular basis. I have it maybe once every few months, and it always tastes fantastic!

Because I don't hold bad food experiences against establishments until I've had two or more visits; I usually hold a two-strike rule, since the first experience could have been just a rare occurence. In my case, I was right. I'm not a restaurant warrior, I'll give people second chances.

I haven't ordered from a chain in years, as a rule the quality is horrible as others have mentioned.

Chicago Deep Dish is all dough, might as well sit down with a loaf of bread.

Also, who the hell started with the damn pineapple on pizza? As a dessert or with ice cream yes, on pizza no.

I used to think pineapple on a pizza was horrible. But then I tried it with bacon and a drizzle of sriracha on top. That is an incredible pizza. The saltiness and smokiness of the bacon along with the spicy from the sriracha really balances out the sweetness of the pineapple.

Tom's House of Pizza displeases me. I actually enjoy the pizza, but it's light on cheese (to the point at times it seems like there is none) and it's ultra-thin but mega expensive.

For whatever reason I always enjoy a pizza made by East Indians. I don't know what it is, but anytime I see an East Indian dude behind the counter I know I'm in for some epic Italian cuisine.

Couldn't agree more. I used to be anti-pineapple as well until a buddy told me to try the tropical chicken pizza from boston pizza. Expensive as hell but dammit if it isn't my favorite pizza of all time. Pineapple and bacon on pizza are like Starsky and Hutch on crime.

Little Caesars is terrible...cheese + cardboard does not equal pizza.

I like Chicago Deep Dish - I know its sketchy and not really the best quality but I still like it. I like my pizza to be doughy and don't like thin crust pizza. It tastes like pizza toppings on a cracker and that's not what i look for.

I really don't like Vern's though...the first time I had it I thought it tasted like bologna and ketchup on pizza dough. Not good.

I find too many places to make really generic, unmemorable pizza (Papa John's, Panago, etc.). I've really wanted to try some of the places recommended like Volos but I am trying to stay away from pizza. Pizza is my favourite food and I can easily put down a large pizza in one sitting and I have been able to actually put down two larges in one sitting.

The thing I find best about Chicago Deep Dish is how much you get. Sixteen relatively huge pieces of pizza and 2 cans of pop for ~$28 (after tip) is pretty hard to beat considering most people are stuffed after 2-3 pieces.

Deep Dish almost seems more like a casserole than a pizza.

Nick and Willy's is decent, but I don't care for the whole take and bake concept.

Somebody mentioned Venus and Oakridge pizza (edit: it was troutman). AFAIK Oakridge is still around; I may even have a menu kicking around in a drawer somewhere. And yes, Venus pizza was incredible. It was really sad to see that place go.

Ha ha! This is our drunken poker night pizza of choice too. Amazingly cheap and above average quality but can be a bit oily sometimes. Agree about the temperature too. I've fried a few tastebuds on more than one occasion.

That's one of my problems with Chicago. Hot and fresh I would say it's one of my favourite pizzas in the city. However I have yet to find a way to re-heat it to the point where it's enjoyable. Something to do with the cheese- it goes through some sort of metamorphosis when it cools.

I can't really get into anything since I was in Chicago again this summer and had Giordano's. Best pizza i've ever had in my life.

You don't have to take and bake - they deliver them cooked or ready to eat as take out as well.

It's all about the cheese pizza at Chuck E. Cheese's. I don't know what they do to it, but it tastes amazing. Haha.

They used to have Michael Jackson in the back beating it.
