I believe it actually is zero. There's just different amount of penalities when you hit the 0.08 level. You could blow a 0.01 and still receive a license suspension, albeit I don't think penalties under 0.08 are "criminal"?

This thread has encouraged a lot of serious discussion about a very serious problem .... 6 page and 104 posts to be exact. I consider that worthwhile.

Bertuzzied himself has even posted here and he doesn't seem to have a problem with the topic. Why are you so uptight?

Yep, I believe .05 is a 24 hour suspension, you just don't hear it talked about often....and like i said earlier, I'm pretty sure you can be charged with impaired driving if you blow even say .02, but the reason you blew .02 is because a cop was called out after you drove off the road and took out a bus shelter.

Indeed, or you were pulled over for a different infraction and you have that glassy eyed look. Which is why I don't drive if I feel even the slightest hint of anything or it's been less than 60 minutes since I finished a drink.

This isn't perfect, but it's a close enough gauge to estimate. Consider a Saturday night. A 210 lb male who has 6 pints over 4 hours (let's say out from 10pm-2am) will register around a .075, below the DUI limit, but still impaired enough to get you a DWAI.

6 beers in 4 hours doesn't sound like a tonne, does it? Dunno, check out the link if you want.

Because I am somewhat sensitive to the issue.

I've had 4 people close me taken by drunk drivers. 2 uncles, 1 aunt and 1 very close friend. ALL of them were innocent victims that just happened to be in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

While I recognize your good intentions to bring attention to a serious topic...I don't think it has produced the level of serious conversation that a topic like this should. Maybe I'm wrong.

But when I read the thread started by Bertuzzied, and the next thing I see is a poll about the same ignorance...I just shake my head.

To me, with threads like this, just shows how low CP has gone. While I am not a regular poster, I do enjoy coming on the forums and reading the threads and well thought out responses from people.

I don't know. It just seems to me that a thread like this wasn't needed...at least not the way it was presented. If I'm wrong I'll STFU and leave you guys at it. I don't know how else to present a thread like this. I'm just very sensitive to the issue.

Cheers!

That's about what I weigh, and the most I'll have these days is about 3 or 4 over a few hours. For me, 3 or 4 beers feels like nothing, but I don't like to risk having any more than that.

I don't mind it. In fact i don't mind if everyone drinks and drive. Just don't hit and injure/kill anyone.

Just be prepared for the consequences if you get caught. Well not with our legal system now.

Is this like one of those "everyone smokes marijuana anyway, so they should just legalize it?"

Yep. 1 beer every 40 minutes doesn't sound like much at all.
Frankly, nursing 1 beer for 40 minutes sounds like a real long time. I wonder how many beers most of us really drink in an hour when we are out at a bar?

I betcha its a lot more than 1-1/3 beers.

I see where you are coming from and I'm sorry for your losses. My intentions in starting this thread were truly honorable. I have known a few people who were serious alcoholics and they drank and drove and they didn't see anything wrong with it... other than getting caught that is. They also used the excuse that everyone does it.

I was hoping the thread would show that no... not everyone does it and those that have are sorry they did and they realize they were being stupid and they don't do it anymore.

Maybe get a few people or even just one to re-evaluate their drinking and driving habits?

Wow that is just heartbreaking to read. I didn't know my friend's cousin well but no matter who was involved it's just hard to accept that he had to die so needlessly and to leave his family behind.

I honestly don't have a problem with this thread but I'm sure you lost more loved ones than most to drunk driving.

I don't think anyone here who says yes said it was a habit, it was just something that sort of happened. I remember there was an argument last year that resulted in a punishment versus pro-active options to eliminate DUI.

A few weeks ago I went out for some brews with buddies. Needless to say we all got hammered. It was a good time.

Then the end of the night one of my buddies wanted to drive. It was "only a block" as he put it. We all insisted on calling a cab, walking or calling driver alternative. Then it got ugly. Me and one of my buddies had to wrestle our "smart" buddy to the ground to take his keys from him.

The next day he thanked us, and apologized for being so "dumb." I said it was cool...and gave him back his keys...with the broken remote starter...I fell on it when we wrestled him to the ground. lol

So as you see...I'll do ANYTHING to stop a friend, or someone I know, from getting behind that wheel drunk.

Nice one Rerun...nice one.

Red-Mile,

I don't think it's a "classess" thread at all. Infact, I'd say it's kind of ballsy for someone to pose a question that requires responders to answwer "yes" or "no" to a very sensitive subject that has obviously affected so many people. It's one of those topics that some might prefer to ignore because it's laced with tragedy and loss of life.

Also, how many voters could not admit to themselves that they have done it or are simply in denial.

I agree with Rerun's arguement RE: Awareness.

PS: One OP made a good point in saying that we have all done idiotic things, especialy in our youth. So good for you!---to the CP'ers that answered honestly, and good for those (I'm one) that have learned from their mistakes.

I'm half cut right now, but unfortunately I can't drive. I have to get a ride and take the train. Sigh. Driving would be so much faster.
