Default Buehrle pitches perfect game

I think this deserves its own thread:

http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=285506

5-0 win over Tampa. First perfect game since 2004. Haven't seen the highlights yet, but apparently Dwayne Wise stole a home run away with a catch over the fence in the 9th to save it.

Buehrle is buying Dewayne Wise dinner tonight I think.

Him and Randy Johnson are now the only active pitchers to have thrown two no-hitters.

Also the only active pitchers to have thrown a perfect game.

Nice. He has always been a solid pitcher.

Fielders are amazing these days. Remember when a leaping catch over the wall to save a home run were a rare once a year amazing occurance?

Now they happen almost everyday? Every week? This was just like Crawfords catch in the all-star game.

No hits, no walks, no errors, facing the minimum 27 batters.

But didn't a guy almost hit a home run? Doesn't that count as a hit?

Why would it? The guy caught the ball, it's a out.

As for the catch, it was the perfect catch.

Nope, just a fly ball out.

This will help you out I think: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_game

A perfect game is defined by Major League Baseball as a game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and in which no opposing player reaches base.[1] Thus, the pitcher (or pitchers) cannot allow any hits, walks, hit batsmen, or any opposing player to reach base safely for any other reason—in short, "27 up, 27 down".

By definition, a perfect game must be both a no-hitter and a shutout. Since the pitcher cannot control whether or not his teammates commit any errors, the pitcher usually must be backed up by solid fielding to pitch a perfect game. An error that does not allow a baserunner, such as a misplayed foul ball, does not spoil a perfect game.

There you have it. Basically, no batter from the other team can ever safely reach base.

Ahh if he didn't strike everybody out, then I'm not as impressed. Although I suppose for baseball fans it's probably a huge feat to accomplish.

Really? Doesn't sound like a perfect game to me then.

Edit... I believe you are referring to this...?

Buehrle pitched his second no-hitter. In a 6-0 win over Texas on April 18, 2007, he also faced the minimum 27 batters. He walked Sammy Sosa on a 3-1 pitch with one out in the fifth inning, then picked him off two pitches later.

From the TSN link in the OP
