until i read her "Concierge" title. honeslty Apple, concierge? good lord
Aren't staff in the back part of the store, sitting up a bit higher behind counters, called "Apple Geniuses"? Or did that ridiculous title (I think its because these individuals got more experience points in whatever 12 sided dice games were held amongst store employees) not get carried over from the US Apple Stores?

My laptop cost me 2200$ and can play games just fine. I think you mean OS X is not "built" for games - but everything I want to play has an OS X version out. Not that you'll care - your loathing for Apple is apparently beyond reason.
I'd just like to point out that "Smarmy" is a very apt description for those adds whether you think the are right, wrong, clever or stupid... they are definitely full of smug and false earnestness. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/smarmy
Not sure if that why he was called unreasonable in his loathing for Apple, but I would disagree, he just used his vocabulary.
I've been to the apple store at market mall twice to get my wife's iphone fixed. While waiting i figured i'd jump on the net on a macbook they have on display.
WTF is wrong with the apple OS? all i wanted was to browse the internet. It has like 200 icons on the bottom. which one is the web browser?
I haven't really used Vista but windows XP sure kicks the apple os's ass.
and it's llama too.
Edit: Now get's the sarcasm but will leave my post up because I have heard this ######ed argument before.
You couldn't figure out how to browse the Internet? What browser do you use on the iPhone? What does the icon look like? What's the name of that application? Did you think to click on the one that was exactly the same?
Window's XP rules because you can't find the Internet?

I tried that but it just took me to www.google.ca and not to Africa or even a page with lions, mac os is stupid.
I did play with a mac the other day and it was funny my biggest peeve and thing I couldn't get used to was the mouse... it felt so awkward... I know its silly but even the tracking of the cursor felt way off. It was like trying to masturbate with the wrong hand.
So wait if having/using Apple/Mac products makes you ultra uber cool and trendy. Does working at the Apple store make you some sort of cool trendy demigod?

You're right. It's much better to pick up a phone and try to get tech support from some guy in India. I can't tell you how annoying it is to have to talk to someone face-to-face and then have to sit there while they literally fix my problem for me right in front of my eyes.
I always leave there wishing I had just spent 3 hours on the phone with some guy who could barely speak English, only to be in a worse spot than I was before I called.

Nope. It just makes you a guy who goes to work and pays his bills. You know, just like anyone else on the planet, I guess.

Yes they are referred to as "Geniuses". Have to admit, while I wouldn't have called them that, from a marketing standpoint it's worked quite well for them.

You just forgot to mentioned the ultra uber cool part.
In fact I bet people are that work at the Apple store are so cool that they put their Apple stickers on the bumper of their Volkswagen Jettas, and spending their evenings on their mac books working on their screen plays at Starbucks.
SO COOL!

jesus, $2500 for a laptop that's not even built for games. and yet Apple has the gall to try and get the Microsoft value ads pulled, because they're finally an actual alternative to those smarmy Mac vs. PC ads
Hmmm....
These the same "unscripted" ads that have the before entering the store and after purchase scenes where cars in the lot and the clouds are in the exact same place? The ones that don't advertise a single feature of any MS product other than HP and Sony hardware is cheap?
I like a lot of what Microsoft has been doing lately but to even consider that this campaign is even remotely close to the switch campaign is redonk.
The ad agency is all Mac too BTW.

Yes, because we all know how cool the people who work at every other retail store on the planet look in their name tags.
Hey, it's a job.
My personal interest in working there is the other side of Apple. Since I'm going to school to get a degree in programming, why not work part time at the Apple Store and take advantage of internal resources to supliment my education? Things like internal courses and training etc. Who knows... Maybe in 3 years, I'll be able to apply to an internal posting for entry-level programmers in Cupertino.
The point, though, is that I want a relatively brainless job while I'm going to school, but why waste 3 years working somewhere with no benefit to my future? Apple Retail might sound pretentious to some, but sounds pretty smart to me.
Just a recommendation, you'll probably want to have a University (i.e. UofC) degree rather then a DeVry degree if your hope is to land a high-tech job in the valley. Supply for workers is going to be super high (hellooooo India) and the costs/work to get you on a visa would be a pain, unless you have duel citizenship or you already have a green card. Especially a place like Apple, which is pretty popular.
I'm not sure working in an Apple store gets your foot in the door as much as you think it would. Its like being a usher for the Saddledome and thinking you might be able to get a try-out contract from Darryl.

Absolutely. I haven't been to Westworld or MyMacDealer, but London Drugs is usually the first place I go to for Apple stuffs.
Sometimes, when I'm in a real good mood, I'll go to Future Shop and grab some commission salesman and tie them up for half an hour making them price match an Apple product for me. I still don't understand why those s are trying to markup Apple accessories, when there's an Apple store here in town.
I went there the other day to buy an adaptor to plug my MacBook into my TV... it sells for $25 at the Apple store, but Future Shop wanted $60 for it. I grabbed this guy who was being a dick to an old lady there, and made him answer questions about it for 20 minutes, then made him price match it with the Apple store - killing his $6 commission off the sale.

Yeah, good points. My plan (as it stands now) is to finish the first year at DeVry and then transfer to UofC and finish my degree through them. As for the Apple Retail -> Apple Headquarters thing... That's in the back of my mind too. I'm going to talk to them about that on Sunday. I think your Usher -> Player analogy thing might be pretty accurate, so I want to make sure first.
Aside from all of that, though, thanks for actually commenting on the topic.

Because they can?
They're not just targeting Apple products based on whether or not there is an Apple store in town: compare their prices on monster cable HDMI cables to the cables you find on monoprice.com. Why do they do it? Pretty much the same reason apple over charges for their hardware... they like money.
