Default Cheap rental cars???

So me and three of my siblings are heading to Halifax from the 22nd of August to the 3rd of September. We got family all over Nova Scotia so we will have to do some driving. I've been searching the usual sites such as expedia and such and the cheapest rates I could find were around 800-900 bucks, most being more. Keep in mind that we are all under 25 so hopefully thats not a big problem. Thanks for any leads guys!

Firstly, if you're under 25, there's a good chance you'll be hit with some additional costs. There might be some ways to get out of it (i.e. if your insurance covers rental cars), but the one time we did it (this was a long time ago), it cost us quite a bit. Here is some more info: http://www.thrifty.com/Car_Rental_In...ar_Rental.aspx

EDIT: It looks like those U-25 fees are mandatory -- even having your own insurance won't waive it...

You used to be able to get some great deals on Budget and Enterprise (i.e. on weekends), but now that we're in high travel season, those deals are gone. For late August/early September, you might be able to get a good deal -- I would keep checking because if you book directly with the company, you can cancel and rebook (i.e. at the lower rate) without any cost as long as its before 24 (48?) hours of the booking.

I recently booked a car and prices are definitely at their peak; the best rate I could find was through Westjet's preferred code for Budget: http://www.budget.ca/westjet/

I've used Hotwire to book a US rental car, but the prices in Canada didn't seem any better than the usual rates...
