I have had Tim Horton's as far South as Columbus, Ohio. I think that there are some in Florida as well.

I was reading that the Dunkin donuts only closed down last week. They did the renovations in 5 days!

Not exactly a Canadian company. The NYC stores are all franchises owned by one guy, who happens to own the most restaurants in NYC, an who also got into a spat with Dunkin Donuts.

I'd like to see them do well just so I can get a double double every once in a while, but outside of that I couldn't care less if this guy gets even wealthier.

my dad is pretty excited for this. he lives in New jersey about 40 mins away. I seriously wouldnt doubt him making a trip in just for coffee

They sold some of the rights to a chain in the US but it's still Tim Hortons that owns and oversees the stores - like a franchise.

Tim Hortons has been owned for a number of years by Wendy's and then a US holdings company but last month they applied to be released and purchased by a Canadian holdings company and it looks like that is going to happen. They will be Canadian again soon.

Tim Hortons has been owned for a number of years by Wendy's and then a US holdings company but last month they applied to be released and purchased by a Canadian holdings company and it looks like that is going to happen. They will be Canadian again soon.

I still don't see how it matters. What does the success of a Canadian donut shop have to do with Canada? I could see if it was a company like Nokia in Finland, providing a ton of jobs etc., but really what does it matter to Canadians whether or not some franchises in NYC are successful and make some guy in NYC another couple million? I can't understand where the logic is on that one.

Well for one, the stock of the company will go up if succesful in the United States.

And? I didn't get any Tim Horton's stock on birth, I'm pretty sure no other Canadians did either, so how does that benefit anyone except people that own the stock, who could be from absolutely anywhere?

Because Tim Horton's has pulled off arguably one of the greatest marketing jobs ever, and somehow managed to tie their coffee/donut chain into what it means to be Canadian. Hence the line-ups at any location in this country, no matter what time it is.

Anddd...whether or not you have stock doesn't matter. A succesful Canadian company( assuming it's going to be owned by a majority Canadian company) is good for all Canadians. There is a reason the stock markets effect our economy so much.

One step in between there: Wendy's owned Tim Hortons, but a few years ago they spun Tim Hortons into its own corporate entity and this allowed Tim Hortons to have its own IPO. The belief at the time was that Wendy's Restaurants were holding back Tim Hortons potential stock value, so they spun it off to recoup that value.

Anddddd... Tim Horton's is traded on the NYSE. Andddd... the success of 8 donut franchises isn't going to impact the economy.

I think it's more of a national pride thing. Maybe somewhat misplaced, but I know that I'd get a real kick out of seeing a Timmys in a foreign country. I don't know why, but I would. Tim Hortons is one thing that all Canadians sort of identify with. Walking into a Timmys in the US or better yet, in Europe would just give me a bit of a kick.

When I was in Italy, I convinced the owner of my favorite pub to order in a bottle of Crown Royal. Not because Crown is my favorite or anything, just because it was cool to have a little piece of home - away from home. He prominently displayed it on the whiskey shelf with the purple bag around the bottom of the bottle and it really ended up being a hit for him. Every canuck that went through the joint ordered a shot. He actually kept ordering it and I bet he still does. Probably loses money on it, but it's the kind of thing that gives you a good feeling about a place. As a travelling canadian, if I walked into a bar overseas and there was a bottle of crown sitting there, I'd buy a shot and keep on drinking at that establishment just...because... Not sure how that really relates to a Tim's in a foreign city, I just think that alot of canadians really find it neat when we see a piece of Canada in a place where you don't really expect to.

I've seen the lineup outside of US based Tim's at 7:30am, not so impressive.
