You guys should be more civil in this thread. Somebody said people got mad b/c I said bad things about Johnny Cash.
I'm 27, born in Canada, and I never heard of the geezer till this past year.
What does that tell you? NO RELEVANCE

Well then I would say that you are very ignorant.
Frankly, I don't know anyone who hasn't heard of Johnny Cash... but then thats probably because I don't know very many people under the age of 14.

That just proves the worldwide appeal to me.

Prior to coming to CP, have you heard of 50 Cent?
If yes then are we to determine by that logic that 50 Cent has more 'Worldwide' appeal than Johnny Cash?

You never heard of the fairly recent movie; "Walk the Line"? It was quite a blockbuster just a few of years ago and was about Cash and his life.... won an Oscar. Starred Joakin Pheonix and Reese Witherspoon?
You also have to remember that a big part of Michael Jackson's fame was not because of was loved. A lot of it was due to his shady life and the fact that he was a joke for about 15 years (Wacko Jacko). That doesn't count as "world-wide appeal".

Really? I absolutely love "Bad". "Dirty Diana" and "Smooth Criminal" are my two favorite Jackson songs.... Then again I loved "State of Shock", so there is no accounting for my musical taste.

This whole thing is hilarious.
Here, I'll spell it out for you.
Say I was to start a thread about the Detroit Red Wings and I say that Steve Yzerman is hands down their best player ever, because I never even heard of Gordie Howe until today. Gordie Howe is irrelevant because I don't know anything about him.
Have I proven my point that Yzerman is the greatest, or have I proven that I don't know anything about the Red Wings?

I think your view on music is very narrow. You've said Johnny Cash and Paul McCartney can't be put in the same category as Micheal Jackson. If you have never even heard of Cash until this year, how can you say where he ranks among music's greats. Have you owned any of his music? Seen him perform? Listened to what other musicians have said about him?
Both of these singers have had careers that have spanned decades and influences many of todays artists. So to say they aren't relevant is crazy.
Despite his succes in the 80's, Jackson's career has mostly been a punchline for late night hosts for the last 15 years. Don't get me wrong Jackson has his place in history, but it is along side guys like Cash, McCartney, Lennon, Holly, Sinatra, Dylan, Presley, Hendrix, Hank Williams Sr. (and there is more) as musicians who have set the bar for others.

More then ignorance, this statement proves that your musical taste is questionable.

Why can't anybody in this thread tell me who was bigger? because you let personal Bias get to you.
It's like asking who is better? Calgary (Johnny Cash or any other artist) or Detroit (Michael Jackson)?

Because you absolutely refuse to accept that people may not agree with you and are trying to browbeat them until they do.
Also, your other thread was locked, why pull the same crap into this one?
Didn't you get the hint?

What "crap"?
I just don't get how any rational individual can say, with a straight face, that anybody is bigger than Michael Jackson.
I just don't get it.

Well I think Paul McCartney is bigger than Micheal Jackson, and you think you're bigger than Paul McCartney so.
You think you're bigger than Micheal Jackson?
Which would mean you're not a 'rational individual'.
This all makes sense.
