Default Hide personal info on website WHOIS?

Im looking at purchasing a website and getting some hosting. However, I'm not all that keen on having my personal information (home address, phone number etc) available to the public. Is there a way around this? I see that godaddy has some privacy thing you can use, but not entirely sure what it entails, but I'll start reading up on it.

Buying a mailing box at some fedex store or something is not a financially viable option.

Any tips on who to buy domain from and get hosting from is appreciated, too.

I'm curious about this as well. I know there's a service where you can keep it anonymous (pay a little extra, they don't put it down, but it's still recorded), but I never did find out how to do it.

Pretty much all domain registrars that I'm aware of will allow you to hide your personal info. I've never paid any extra for this.

Two that I can say for sure are baremetal (I use them for my .ca domains) and dreamhost (I use them for hosting and the rest of my domains).

You can see how they do their masking by doing whois on groundupweb.ca and sententia.net, for example.

Yeah, you gotta select the option with your domain registrar.

GoDaddy has it for sure, IIRC.

I registered with Dreamhost. The personal info is hidden (substituted with Dreamhost's info) by default at no extra charge. Any registrar worth their money will do this for you.

I regestered a domain on GoDaddy through Google Sites. It was one of the options as I was setting it up. I didn't have to pay anything extra for it.

If I'm not mistaken, all .ca domains should have this option.
