Wasps wasps wasps!!!!

I had a few in my office a while back.

I gave them 24 hours to get out, then I trapped both under a ruler type thingy, and let them die there.

I was pretty adept over the years at my mom's place at destroying wasp nests - really good actually.

Then there was one way back under a deck that I couldn't dig out or get to and we had to hire someone to come in and do the pest control bit (an allergy issue in my family).

Man, that was so slick I don't know why we didn't use it years earlier - even considering my wasp eradication expertise.

It took about 5 minutes and the wasps were gone by the next day. It was super easy, price effective, and I didn't have to get stung or inhale Raid fog or something like that.

Go with the exterminator and you'll be happy. It is well worth the price because to do it properly, you'll need to get to the heart of the nest which will involve taking apart the frame of the garage from the sounds of it.

If you're able to plug the hole with some foam I'd just go do that at night. They're all in the nest after dark.

4x4 made a recommendation last year that worked for me. He said to boil a big pot of water and pour it into the nest. Worked like a charm.

Actually maybe that was for ants... I'd probably try it anyway.

I'm not sure it would work as well for the wasps, the ant hill is right on the ground where as wasp nests are higher up. Not as easy to direct boiling water horizontally.

However the only time I had to destroy a wasp nest, they had built it inside my BBQ. First time that I ever started a gas BBQ with the lid closed. (Sorry- didn't take any pictures.)

Ahhh right, and it was you that recommended it. It really worked like a charm. Had two big hills in my backyard and hit them both in one day. The remaining ants relocated and formed a new hill which I hit a week later. Now there are none!!

As a side note, it'd still be pretty funny to watch a guy try and climb a tree with a boiling pot of water. If the OP does want to try I would gladly document his attempt with full video.

Actually I manned up and bought some of that super poisonous wasp killer foam. It did the job pretty good.

Hey folks, get your wasp traps out already!! I had a rough summer last year as I had a colony in my composter. I was stung twice, and the swelling and pain were unbelievable. By the time I realized I had a problem, there wasn't much I could do but be prepared next year. I put out a wasp trap in mid-April this year - you know, the ones with a funnel and you put juice, pop or sugar water in. I was killing nothing but house flies, but yesterday, I noticed a wasp in there. When I looked closely, I realized it was the biggest mofo I've ever seen......I'm certain I nailed a queen!!

Won't those traps also attract bees? That's the last thing I would want to do, they are having a hard time as it is. I got several wasp stings last summer, actually I think I was starting to get immune to the effects, but they still hurt.

Hanging a paper bag stuffed with something keeps them from nesting in that area, not a perfect solution but at least you won't have a nest near you.

Not to my knowledge. I've used my wasp trap for years - I've just never put it up this early until now. Never caught a bee.

Considering the garage probably contains spiders and centipedes as well, your only recourse would be to burn the garage down. I'm sorry, but that's the way it has to be.

Based on my one university level entimology course it should definitely not attact bees. Bees food comes from pollen which can only be found in flowers. Wasps on the other hand are opportunistic and eat everything, especially sugary foods.

You will attract things like fruit flies.

Last summer we made some wasp traps with the pop bottle idea at our cabin in invermere. Two days later we had about ~100 wasps in the 3 traps. If you mix a little alcohol in with the juice or sugary mixture they get drunk and start stinging each other.

Those fake wasp nests don't work. First off, wasps aren't territorial. As further proof, I had two wasp nests in my backyard last year, about ten feet apart. And the neighbour has one of those things hanging too!
