League's velocity has never been the issue. Location on the other hand...

95 with wicked movement, that much movement definitely reduces speed.

Jays find a different way to lose by one run. Pathetic.

Actually I have been a rays fan for 3 years. I was at alcs game 6 and 7 I am and have traveled to Toronto and Seattle and st Pete to watch games. I have a sling box setup in St Pete to watch every game. But ya... maybe I am just a dedicated band wagoner. Plus I know the rays don't play in Tampa and know that Tampa Bay is not a city unlike your sportsnet and tsn announcers.

I got a good laugh out of that.

This is kind of sad. I suppose I'm a bit of a bandwagon Jays fan, but I was really excited about this team for the first couple of months of the season.

Now with all the other AL East teams flying by them, and their season going down the tube at an alarming rate, I'm probably going to watch fewer and fewer games.

Scutaro has played every game this season so far.... today is his first game off...

As for Rolen he has back problems... He has to sit every so many games.

Whats it like attending a game at Tropicana Field? On TV it looks like it has all the charm of a golf dome.

I don't know where you are getting the back problem stuff? I know his back was still earlier in the season, but I was under the impression he was just fine now.

Read this piece this morning.

Quote:
The bottom line was that Rolen had been receiving days off on day games after night games frequently this season to help keep him fresh. Scutaro -- a part-time player throughout his career -- had started every single one of Toronto's 86 games before Thursday.

"We talked about it earlier in the week that I was going to give him today off," Gaston said of Scutaro. "It's well deserved. I think after the All-Star break, I'm going to try to get him and [second baseman Aaron] Hill out of there maybe once a week and give [John McDonald] some more playing time -- just rest those guys a little bit."

Rolen has a long history of nagging injuries, having him sit occasionally is prudent.

I posted a rumor in the "trade doc" thread, but I'll relay the idea:

Should a team desire Doc bad enough, then they would also have to take VW with him.
ben maller rumored it to be true.

As much as I like VW, if this team won't go out and get a solid bat and another pitcher, holliday and haren for instance, then the him and Doc should go.

I'm using Pitch/FX data; you're using your memory. Big difference.

And Pitch/FX is a lot different than the radar they use on TV. The same system is installed in every MLB stadium so there's consistency thee.
Alright, I'll go there then and research.

Here is a good official explanation of PFX:
http://gameday.mlblogs.com/archives/...tch_types.html

I find the example of the Tim Wakefield comment made near the bottom of the page since it speaks to my point. Yet, I am still looking for more info.

Here's a good article about pitching physics from a sports writer:
http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/ar...of-the-sinker/,

In that article, the Randy Wolf graph with all that pitch data is what I need to find for BJ now. Any suggestions Jay?

http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfx/

It only has data from 2007-2009 unfortunately so you can't look into BJ's first Jays season.

On the subject: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index...s-dump-bj-ryan

That second link mentions Ryan losing around 4mph of velocity on both his fastball and slider so it looks like we were both wrong.

Rolen has already missed 12 - 13 games, it quite obvious they are resting him every so many games (i.e. he has a bad back).

The atmosphere at tropicana field is actually really good. The only reason though is because it is a dome that keeps the sound in and makes few sound like many. Game 7 of the alcs on the other hand was just crazy. It was so loud and so intense. It was louder then the dome was during the stanley cup final. The big thing at trop is that half the fans are rays fans the other half are either yankees or red sox fans, so every game there is pretty much half cheering everytime the rays do something then half when the other team does something. Much like roughrider and maple leaf games here in calgary.
