Is it legal or not to turn into the far lane? I always it was illegal unless signs are posted.
One other question. Who has right of way. The person turning left into a 1 lane road, or a person turning right? If I am turing left and I see someone puts on his blinker to turn left I always go so long as that person put the signal on ahead of time of course. I see a tonne of people who will wait for that person to turn right no matter if the signal is on or not.

How is it that someone stops someone else from passing? Unless you mean dicks hugging the centre line not allowing you to see?

I'm referring to people who will sit in the left lane beside other slow moving traffic and refuse to move over, or people who will intentionally block you from passing them safely.
In general I'm talking about people who have decided it's their business to enforce the rules of the road.

My understanding is that the person turning left has to yield to the person turning right unless otherwise noted (i.e.: a yield sign).

The guy who isn't crossing a lane of traffic (the one making a right) has the right of way.

Westbound on Glenmore today at around lunchtime -- the right lane on the approach to the Crowchild North turnoff was blocked off by many orange cones and barriers. This meant everyone in the right lane had to move over and this meant everyone on Glenmore had to come to a stop, leading to a nice long backup all the way to Macleod Trail and a slow crawl for thousands of cars.
There wasn't a single person working in the blocked off part. There wasn't any evidence of construction, road work or even shovel-leaning. The traffic guy on the radio said "the right lane will be closed until about 2 pm" but didn't offer any explanation as to why it was closed.
There must be some excuse for this apparently arbitrary and pointless lane closure on a major road. Anyone know what it is?

Some dude from Manitoba was changing lanes all over Macleod without signalling this morning. He was one of those "I *must* shoehorn myself into every space in traffic in my never-ending quest to move up one more car" people.
If you're one of those people - stop being a moron. If you don't know how, pay me $250/day and I'll ride around with you and point out your bad driving habits for you until you change just to shut me up.

I saw that too there Underoos, it's as if these schmucks get out there and lay pylons down for a few minutes and feel like they have done enough for the day so they either sit there talking and smoking, or they go for a walk and contemplate life.
My bitch and moan for the day is truckers driving in the left lane when they don't intend to turn left at any point ahead of them. The fact that they all like to come out at rush hour times pisses me off too.

I managed once, without ever making a dangerous lane change, to keep one of these guys from passing me on Deerfoot from 32nd to Glenmore. OMG was he ever pissed that he wasn't getting anywhere.
And that closure on the ramp from Glenmore to Crowchild is annoying as hell. It's been closed every weekday like that since mid last week. Not at all sure why.

Oh I don't. In fact, I'm a huge supporter of the police being in my neighborhood (Riverbend) during these times because it's turned into a speedway.

They need to set that van up on Riverglen Drive, it seems like every third car is whipping around doing 60-70.

I will admit sometimes your not paying attention and you miss the sign, so you try and get in, but who is stupid enough to go all the way to the sign without seeing it? Inconsiderate ######bags.

I am compelled to register and respond to this line of thinking.
It is faster and better if both lanes fill up and merge at the end of the bottleneck in a criss-cross fashion.
That guy who goes down to the end of the lane and merges when the lane ends is actually doing the right thing. Don't be mad at him, point the finger at yourself for needlessly making the wait to get through much longer.

I'm going to jump in at this (Except I've been here for a while)
I'm agreeing that the guy who goes down to the end of the lane and merges is correct. However, I absolutely hate and despise the ones that blow by you to the end of the lane. I'd have no problems with drivers that go slowly and steadily to the end of the lane, waiting for an opening to merge. If you pass me and you go towards the end of the merge lane doing 80 while everyone else is doing 30... I'm sorry, but if I meet you at the end of your lane, you sure as hell aren't getting in front of me.

The idea is that you drive all the way to the end of the lane and then merge, that's the fastest way for everyone to get through. Take a drive around Vancouver and see how they get onto the bridges, criss crossing each lane where both lanes meet. Works better than any other method.
Just because everyone else is lining up like sheep doesn't mean you shouldn't let the guy in who's actually doing it the right way.

Doing it RIGHT... is to slowly and steadily move towards the end of the merge lane and merge... that way the traffic keeps flowing in both lanes as you will have room to merge... If you fly down the lane that's about to close, it's more likely that you will have to STOP to get in... and even if you don't have to, the person flying down the merge lane right behind you will... and they're going to hold up the traffic.
(I'm speaking of something like a lane closing in a construction zone here for the most part, because I see that almost daily)

This ongoing debate shall be settled once and for all with this post. Anyone who disagrees with me is wrong. Here goes...
There are three different situations where this comes up: First, when two lanes merge into one with a relatively short amount of merge distance, and high volumes of traffic in both lanes. Example: SB Deerfoot on to WB 17th. Any idiot that stops at the end of the converging white line V and flips on his signal is a ###### and I will pass him on the right and force my way in at the very end where the two lanes actually become one. Everyone behind me should do it too, and the traffic should criss cross. If you are in the WB lane of 17th and you take offence to this, you are an idiot and a ######.
Second, when two lanes merge into one with a relatively long merge and there is considerable traffic in both lanes. Example: 50th Ave on to SB Crowchild. Any person that stops at the end of the white converged V is an idiot. There is a long lane that you should be able to merge into along the way. Stopping anywhere along the wall of cars is stupid. Go to the end and criss cross if necessary, but if the opportunity arises to get in along the way, take it. Most people in the wall of traffic can see that you're not trying to take advantage of your glorious open lane and will leave a gap for one car to scoot into to keep traffic flowing.
Third is when a lane is closed down for construction and there is high volume of traffic on the road. This lane must be used to it's maximum freaking potential. Let the traffic build up in all the lanes and criss cross at the VERY END of the lane. People who lose their mind and stop and try to nose their way in 500 meters before the lane ends screw everything up by causing half the cars behind to freak out and do the same thing, and the other half to get pissed off and fly down to the end, only to be greeted by a-holes that are now ticked that some people tried the early merge and now these end-of-the-laners are "cheating". It's not cheating. It's proper traffic flow.

didnt read all the pages ... for me my pet peave is people who drive without purpose ... i am not asking you to speed or drive like Mario Andretti, but please
1) know how your car works
2) keep up with the flow
3) know where you are going
4) stop driving like you are scared of your own shadow!
Its usually people whose head does not come past the support for some reason.
damn, i hate it when people are just ladee da, ladee da ... get off the road if you are too timid to participate!
