Default Jersey's on eBay. Help to tell if fake.

So I want my Sakic jersey now, and was browsing through eBay and found some. From pictures alone, how can I tell if it is fake/real?

I tried looking for other topics on the issue, but couldn't find anything conclusive, nor did I want to bump those topics, they were small, or old.

Thanks for any help. The link is: this.

It is $99, but he claims he sells them cheap because he buys closeouts, whatever those are.

Thanks. I am going to try Jersey City tomorrow to see how much they want.

He says that he doesn't sell fakes.. that should be OK LOL

Anyway, ebay would be OK since they offer purchase protection, and this seller does stat that satisfaction is guaranteed.

Make sure the auction does indicate "authentic" then pay using Paypal, and be sure to fund that paypal transaction with your credit card. (Paypal tries to use existing balance first, then bank account second.)

If it comes and it's fake, talk to the seller. If they refuse to refund, then file a chargeback with Paypal. If they refuse, then take it up with your credit card. Just be aware of the Paypal timelines- IIRC you only have 30 days to file a chargeback with them- and that might be from the date of payment; not date you receive the item.

And make sure the seller is in North America.

Or buy the Sakic jersey i have for sale :-P

I'm pretty good in the jersey department, if you were to link me to one you were interested i can usually tell...

Generally speaking, if there is a fight strap....its fake.

Also, check if they have any other jerseys for sale, if it is hard to tell on one, see if any of the other jerseys look overly fake.

If it is $99 and a Premier jersey, that would seem less fishy, but if he is selling a "Authentic with fight strap" for that much....i would say no

If you want to buy a fake for the price that guy has probabaly bought his fake
check out www.jerseyb2b.com

They have a huge selection of fakes and most of them look pretty solid, i am pretty sure he has Sakic too

Didnt see the link the first time,
That jersey is legit.

Most fake manufactuers dont waste their time making fake premiers.

I looked at all of his, your good to go

Hey thanks, I will go to Jersey city now and see how much they want (I am thinking 200+), and if that is the case will buy it off eBay.

Now I just need to find a Team Canada 02 jersey with Sakic.

I agree. It does look legit. However, you'll only be sure after the jersey arrives.

If the jersey comes with all the exact tags in the photos you should be fine.

As opposed to those tags which look fake.

To be honest you can hardly ever win on ebay, there are just so many fakes it really ruins it for everyone else.

If I had a dollar for every Chinese knock off I've seen at the Saddledome I'd be able to afford season tickets.

I think this is a real jersey.

But it will be the premier style numbers....

Where the number is stitched onto the jersey, but all detail on the number is printed

Yeah, that is fine, I like the Premiers, my Phaneuf one is a premier and I love it. My dad has a Authentic and it looks terrible, but after thinking about it now, it is probably fake, it isn't the same colour as mine (his is darker), it has the strap, but the numbers and logo are all stitched and flexible.

I ordered it now. Now only if I could find a '02 Team Canada Sakic jersey.

I'm positive your dad's jersey is fake.

Agreed. That is why people can spot the fake ones a mile away.

The Sakic in the auction is most likely a legit Premier jersey -- good point about the cresting possibly having the 'faux' stitching.

99% if the Edge jerseys with the fight strap are fake. The retail price on these are insane, so very few people get them. The easiest way to spot a fake (by looking at photos anyways) is to look at the material that the numbers are crested with. If it's a cheap shiny fabric, it's fake. The real jerseys have twill cresting which has a flat or matte appearance (with the exception of teams like COL, LA, PIT, etc which use twill that is metallic and/or has a pattern on it).

For certain teams (especially the Redwings; also the Blackhawks), you can tell because the font on the numbers and/or letters is off. This is particularly true on the Redwings jerseys, which use radially arched letters on the back versus vertically arched letters. << puts hand up for being a uniwatch geek >> Check the sellers other auctions and you can usually tell if other jerseys they have are fake (incidentally, the font on the Flames jerseys is virtually spot on -- IMO anyways).

Sometimes you can also tell by the stitching on the numbers -- it's hard to describe though.
