I didn't actually realize that keeping the sellers dignity was such an important factor. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm being genuine. I'd be more concerned about looking like an ass myself if I low balled too low more than anything.

When you see an RV that you like, go in and offer them 50% of the asking price. Apparently, from what I've learned here, this is quite acceptable. If the seller gets indignant and feels you are wasting his time by making such an insulting offer, look astonished and tell him to chill as this is all part of the negotiating process and you really didn't mean it. You were just trying to gauge how desperate he is and trying to figure out how badly you can screw him over on the price. Apparently, when buying something, fairness is no longer part of the equation.

In a sale between 2 people 'fairness' is whatever those two parties decide it is. If an offer of 50% of the asking price is accepted by the seller it's obviously fair, if it wasn't the seller should have rejected it.
I don't get why you take this personally, besides some sort of mass amount of built up anger. Whether or not you're a professional seller this is a business transaction. If you don't want to be involved in business transactions have someone else take care of it for you. People trying to get deals, fairly or not, are a reality of business, either grow up and deal with it or stop selling things.

I deal with low-balls every day, but it's part of my job. Just don't let it bother you, there's not much you can do about it. And yes, Asians do low ball the most. It's a stereotype that is pretty true, and I am Asian.

Welcome to the real world this is how selling something usually works. Try working on your grammar before complaining about others.

Here I'm asking $3295 for it (underpriced if you ask me... but I wanted a quick sale), one guy has the balls to ask me if I would accept $1500. I felt like telling him to f-off.
I also received a couple of e-mails from people asking if I would accept $2000 for it. My e-mail response was simple.... "NO. Don't bother me again."
I mean, I can understand people wanting to haggle a bit, but come-on... offering 40-60% below the asking price (which is extremely reasonable). These offers really pissed me off.
And not to be a racist, but the fact is that all the low ball offers came from people with foreign (east asian / middle eastern / african) type names who's spelling and grammar in their e-mails was very poor.
This experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

This is your problem right there. Kijjiji is a very broad site that caters to people all walks of life. Of course you are going to get low ball offers. People are looking for a bargain when they shop in Kijjiji. If you were expecting all "fair" offers, you would have been better off selling it on an auction site or a professional/personal website or something. Glad you got it sold to someone that needs it, and at a price that you live with

Finally, I answered the guy back with, "After careful consideration of your offer, I have decided to sell the phone for $100 to a guy who is paying my personal cheque. Cash is just such an inconvenience. Regards."
Like seriously. I get that it's their culture, but it's not our culture. Just like it would be rude for me to go to some places in Asia and look people in the eye, it's rude to come to Canada and offer me half of what I'm selling it for.
Regardless of culture, though, it's completely idiotic to expect a discount for paying in cash.
|
Damn some of you have no experience selling and should either not sell stuff or not act like you know what you're talking about.
Buyin in cash DOES lead to discounts i dont care if your black, white, brown or yellow. Paying in cash means the person you are buying it from does NOT have to pay taxes (well you have to but most dont) so they offer you a better deal.
enough with the sterotypes.

What do you feel is wrong with my grammar? Please illustrate my errors. I assume there must be a lot of them since you made a point of mentioning it.
I await your response and corrections, master.

One does not "feel" grammatical errors, that is a misnomer.
It would be difficult and inefficient to illustrate the error(s).
There should be a verb attached to the subject 'master.'

Master was a name. Perhaps I should have capitalized it.
As for the others.... you're splitting hairs.

who's = who is
You said "who is spelling and grammer". My question is who is spelling and grammer? I would understand "whose spelling and grammer" that would make grammatical sense to me, but who's, not so much.
