Pains me to say it, because I love Halladay, and he's my favorite Jay.
But the man deserves to play for a team that can contend, and the Jays will not contend this year or next year. (I'm certain there's a chance, but that's highly doubtful)

Trading him this year, to a contender that will overpay (see Phillies), will maximize the assets that the Jays can acquire for him. With one year left on his contract at a fairly cheap price, teams will offer just about anything for Halladay.

Just as long as it's not the Yankees or the Red Sox, I think I'm happy.

And wherever he goes, you can bet I'll be cheering for them becuase of the Doc!!

Would be really tough to see Halladay go, but I think if a team is willing to overpay and give you some elite players in return..you have to pull the trigger this year.

It would be great to see Roy pitch in the playoffs...I would automatically become a fan of whatever team he went to.

Its tough for the Jays to lose a player of this calibre, but in my view the Jays have to fully explore the option of trading Halladay.

I would guess lots of teams will submit offers...

Its a matter of will anyone be willing to pay the high price which is required.

Anyhow I voted he will be traded before July 31st_09

I'd let someone have him for free if they are willing to take Wells and Rios's contracts with him.

Exactly. 2-3 legit prospects to the Jays for Halladay and Wells (least favorite Jay, possibly ever).

I'd rather trade him next year. Give us one more shot to build a winner around him. But he's shown a ton of loyalty to the franchise in the past, and I can't fault him at all for wanting to win. He deserves it, so if we get a massive deal this year, or if we fall out of contention next, he has to be given the chance to win.

For the Jays perspective in 1 1/2 years time he would most likely find a new home in the American league East anyhow....

Might as well try to get as much as possible

I wouldn't necessarily be that teams fan but just Docs fan than. I don't want him gone, this team has horrible luck with pitchers injuries lately but if the offer is too good to pass up you gotta move him.

I want him to be traded because he deserves a franchise that can make the playoffs and whose fans actually show up for games. 15 years of futility and counting.

I would root for them in the playoffs. After that, if he's in NY or BOS...no chance.

I'd predict that too. Theoretically if winning is a priority, there is no better Division to play in than the AL West or NL West because there are only 4 teams in those Division and at least one is going to the playoffs, and the other teams have as good a shot at the Wild card as everyone else.

Yeah, the question has a lot of variables and assumptions going into it. Assuming Halladay isn't going to sign an extension and the return is a top pitching prospect, top position player prospect, and a couple other decent pieces than it's a move you make. But if the return is marginal prospects, or he will consider signing an extension hold onto him.

From a few internet articles today, teams know they have to pony up everything they got to get Halladay. As much as I absolutely love the guy, Riccardi has to know you have to get at least 3 blue chip sure fire prospects, with 2 being can't miss impact MVP players. Anything less would be not worth doing. Halladay still got years and years in the tank IMO, so unless they're getting a young Lincecum in a deal, I say no deal. What I'd find really interesting is if they can somehow get a super deal with including Wells in there to get rid of his salary. Now that would be interesting.

If that's the requirement I don't see Halliday getting traded then.

Not sure why a team would want to trade a younger version of Halliday for 1.5 years of the older guy, plus add more pieces to the deal. If the Jays could get Lincecum right now for Halliday it would be a steal let alone a younger version plus others.

Also not sure why a team would give up, let alone even have, 2 sure fire MVP players.

But perhaps that is your plan to make the price so high that they don't move him.
