Tornado watch for
City of Calgary issued
Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions. Watch for updated statements.
Please refer to the latest public forecasts for further details and continue to monitor the situation through your local radio and television stations or Weatheradio.
Don't panic though, cold core funnels I believe. Not baton-down-the-hatches tornadoes.
Location: Oklahoma - Where they call a puck a ball...
Exp:
Well dont get worked up , it just mean conditions are right for them to form ............. i wonder if people up there freak out when a tornado is mentioned. My wife goes ape nuts when one is mentioned here ...
Down here around 58 St. and Peigan trail, one of my clients just showed me a picture of a funnel cloud he took with his Blackberry...so the potential is definitely there
Yep, no reason to get freaked out. If anything does occur, it will be a weak one like Red Deer got on Saturday (most likely).
Keep your heads to the sky with any severe weather though.
And respect any swirling column of air you encounter, else this may happen

A funnel cloud was recently reported near Calgary. More funnel clouds are possible this afternoon along a line extending from Red Deer to south of Calgary. This line will move eastwards through the afternoon.
That's the difference between a "watch" and a "warning". Easy way to remember is a "watch" is literally being able to stand on your driveway and watch for a funnel cloud. A "warning" is like a yellow light, the red light (tornado) is imminent at that point.
Curious where your getting your info from? My ace in my sleeve (don't tell anyone but it's weather network) isn't saying anything like that.
And with the real thing there's a deadly quite that comes first, every animal quiets, the wind stops, then all holy hell breaks open. Generally doesn't happen if there's already rain in the air too.

Environment Canada issues the warnings. The Weather Network sucks.

Environment Canada (link above) is the one that actually issues the warnings... TWN just reports whatever EC reports, so there's a delay.
I use this website, it looks better http://kamala.cod.edu/Canada/latest.wwcn15.CWWG.html

That may be true in some instances but people shouldn't think they are safe if there is rain, or if it is windy, stormy, etc.. The leading edge of the storm usually has the rain and then the tornado comes up behind it. Also, tornadoes can become wrapped in rain so you can't see them.
Here is a pic that shows a supercell. The storm would be moving from left to right.
Tornado watch here in Edmonton as well. It's all dark and spooky in downtown right now.
That has nothing to do with the Tornado watch

Yup, your right, never really safe if there's any kind of a potential. That picture is great! But there is a delay between the storm / rain part and the tornado hitting you. That'd be the deadly calm I was referring to. (painfully trying to back up my point is all). Like a lot of others, I went through the big one in Edmonton years back, remember it vividly as I had to run home for my life!
You going chasing this year, the deers will be safely in the bushes hiding themselves, so you'll be good there.
