Well if you think you're too good for those jobs, I'm sure there's plenty of other people in Calgary who will gladly take them.

I'm 27 and I had an interview at Roots yesterday, and I have an interview at Chapters on Thursday. Nothing to be embarassed about at all. I'll be in the same boat as you basically, working a low paying job, but I'll just be glad to have a job.

Oh ok - well good to know that Im not the only one in my shoes. Anyways, which do you think would be prefered by most to work? Retail or coffee shop? Neither pay great, but like you said, a jobs a job. And especially when the economy is still as rough as it is, we cant be picky.

Nothing to be embarassed about in my mind, I would buy coffee from you any time.
Just be prepared because your going to get the question in the interview on why a 28 year old wants to work retail because they're going to be thinking, we get her trained and then she's gonna quit when something better comes along.

I think this is important... companies may be unwilling to hire new employees they perceive to be over-qualified, who might leave within a few weeks/months for greener pastures, leaving the employer having to re-train another new employee.

"Training" for a lot of retail type jobs has been dumbed down to 8-16 hours of watching videos and reading store policies. At most this will cost them like $500 or something. When the service industry moved away from moderately paid, low to medium turnover positions to low paid, high turnover positions they had to skimp on training, ultimately leading to lower customer service but much much much cheaper labor costs.
Safeway for instance doesn't provide any guidance to their cashiers or service clerks on how to bag groceries. A combination of a lack of common sense in today's youth and company policy would be why your bread gets crushed by food cans.

Man I hate that, its come down to the fact that I usually start doing my own bagging at Safeways while she runs the stuff through the scanner.
The manager got pissed off once, but I told him that I don't like having my bread and other things crushed by stupidity.
If something stupid is going to happen, I want to be in the drivers seat.

Thats true, you have a good point.
Anyways as of this morning I got a new job! Thats the good news! Oh, and its selling womens clothing in a store in the new Balzac mall! (discounts!). Bad news is that 1) Doesnt start till Aug 19, not big deal though. and 2) Pay sucks really bad, really low. But I need a job for the time being and will keep looking for something better! In fact Im surprised how low the pay is in retail, and Im not willing to say it on here, I feel embarassed But a jobs a job right? Money is money right?
