Seems silly to me that they would risk a large cash cow as the Casino to fire, when there is a CFD station 2km away. But I guess it was built with our money, so maybe they don't care either.
I worked quite closely with CFD when the new casino was built and they were quite vocal that they would not be responding.

Things may have changed though...that was a little ways back now.

Really?

You and like 3 other people fail to see the irony of me saying I am saying things to get a rise out of people, then proceed to say something that will get a rise out of people and you all fall for it again. Sheesh.

Not true, Reserve lands can be expropriated in the same way as non-reserve private property if they receive permission from the federal government.

I said "some" people say that.

Some would say as individuals have less.
For example an individual cannot "own" a piece of land within a reserve.

So if the city or province wants to expropriate your land (presuming you don't live on a reserve) they have to get permission from the Feds first?

I can honestly say that if this gets approval tonight, I'll be happier about the road than I am about Bouwmeester. FTR, I'm pretty fricken happy about Bouwmeester.

Wow, we have few aboriginal law guys in our office and I've never heard of this.

Good find... but......

There is no way this has ever been done.

Also, just because its been enacted, doesn't make it 'legal', in that, as soon as anyone tried the law would be subject to a constitutional challenge.

Could you imagine what would happen if this was attempted? Oka would look like a picnic in comparison.

The Feds are involved in the ring road deal.

And this one certainly lays out how they are directly involved.

But it is certainly not the "usual" expropriation most of us are familiar with; otherwise it would have been done long ago.

I would argue that they have less property rights than the average Canadian. They basically have squatters rights, they can exist on the surface but own no part of the mineral rights and cannot sell their surface rights. They are like long term lease tenants with zero rent. No individuals own anything, they just have squatters rights for an undetermined period of time.

Give them full surface rights and let the natives decide what to do with the land.

It is because the ring road around Calgary is going to be part of the NAFTA Super Highway stretching from Mexico all the way to Alaska.

Haven't you heard of the North American Union??
