Christie McAuliffe jokes are probably offensive . . . . . a good person openly mocked in the opening hours of her death and thereafter.

Michael Jackson pedophile jokes are well-earned. The bigger, sadder joke was a justice system that gave every appearance of having been bought.

Big difference. Get used to it. No doubt there's a lot more to come.

Dude seriously. It isn't like it is your dead grandma we're talking about.

It is a suspected child molester and all around freak. I don't support inflammatory posts where people say they are glad he's dead but there is nothing wrong with making jokes.

Get a grip. Some people are sad, some people are indifferent and some people are happy. Deal with it.

I am tired of people from either side of this debate flipping on the other side.

If you hated him, that is great, just don't start s*** here. If you loved him and are offended by the jokes, that is great, just don't start s*** here.

The thing about death jokes is that it's not the dead guy who's affected....it's his family.
I'm all for making fun of Jackson, but damn, can we at least wait till the family has had the proper chance to grieve? I'm sure nobody on here would want their kids to hear this kind of stuff a day after their dad died. They want to hear that kind of stuff a few weeks after.

Umm, I hate to break it to you but I'm pretty sure they can grieve WHILE we make fun of him.

I doubt any of the Jackson family are reading Cp right now.

My comments:

What a weird dude. The only disappointment/sadness I feel is that his life seems like such a waste. What age did he peak at? And from there it was just a mess. Too bad (how his life played out I mean). Jokes are funny. "Glad he's dead"... I don't know seems wrong but I don't really care, he's not my friend.

What I really find odd is how many music elitists there are. Oh, you probably like such and such, compared to such and such that's not even real music. Blah blah blah.

I've listened to and loved music my entire life. I know one Lou Reed song because of a movie (not nitpicking at whoever mentioned him, just the one that stood out), I liked Led Zeppelin when I was a teenager with long greasy hair and thought it was cool to be grungy, Nirvana a year or two later, Bob Marley only in the last 5 years but mostly from some dance remix was I ever exposed to him. Music sounds good, everybody has their tastes.

Bunch of Nazis!!

Well, if it's any help, Pope John Paul wasn't even cold yet when I was openly wondering if his anti-condom stance hadn't made his legacy one of the more destructive in the modern world.

These are public figures. Reaction is instantaneous. That's the way it is.

"Don't speak ill of the dead," doesn't even make it past Oscar's rant over the open casket of one of his friends in Corner Gas.

I am no more upset over his death then I am over the death of any other individual I have never met.

I'm not really sure that constitutes making fun of him, but more a discussion about his achievements and influences. I really have no issue with doing that with Jackson either. It's mostly just the "haha he's dead, let bust out some tired jokes" that feels a little off.

yeah, and im sure nobody in Iran gives a crap about what we think about the prostests, and Dubya never cared about our war on terror stance. But then it wouldn't be a discussion board if all we talked about was things that had a direct consequence.

Apparently Michael Jackson left the Beatles catalog to Paul McCartney. That seems like a classy thing to do.

It doesn't matter what anybody says to me. Michael jackson was the greatest singer/entertainer ever IMO. Besides Elvis, I don't think anybody could hold a candle to him.

Most weren't and will never be in his league as an entertainer and singer. A creative genious. Weirdo yes.

Looks as if he had an addiction to painkillers and his Demerol shot killed him yesterday and the Dr who gave it to him is MIA.

Damn, thats huge. It was owning that Beatles catalog the really made Jackson wealthy beyond belief, no this own music.

I've read a lot of reports that he put that in his will to give the catalog back to Paul. He said he was sad that they lost their friendship. Sly move beating Paul out for his own catalog though. It was either back to Sir paul or to his kids.

Would be nice if it was back to Sir Paul. Good thing to do. Imagine going on tour and having to pay somebody to sing your own songs?

They wouldnt have to pay to sing their own songs. Just if he wanted to record any of them. It would be like he is "covering" his own songs though.
