Are you sure you don't mean 'if you seek a off'?

Alternatively, I might ask who cares if you do or don't have interest in celebrity news? It's the off-topic forum here... people are allowed to discuss whatever they want that isn't hockey-related.
I think it's safe to say a heck of a lot more people in North America know about celebrities and celebrity gossip than those who pay attention to or care about hockey news. So all the people who enjoy celebrity gossip could go into hockey forums and start saying "who the eff cares" and "Who??" with equal justification.

Peanut, I think it all goes to who knows what about their own celebreties; hockey or hollywood.
I can tell you when Iginla came to the Flames and under what circumstances. I can tell you what year we drafted Moss, and Conroy's trade history. But ask me about their personal lives, and the only Flames I can tell you about their personal lives are the ones who I have spoken to at length or met their families.
I think that is what was being said there.

Have you read the hockey forum lately? Celebrity gossip and hockey pretty much go hand in hand these days.

Oh I agree. Sports and all the associated fandom is pretty similar to Hollywood/celebrities and those fans, in my mind anyways. Some people think interest in celebrity gossip is a waste of time. Some people think interest in professional sports is a waste of time. I personally enjoy wasting double my time by being interested in both!!
I also think that Hollywood/celebrities have arguably more followers in North America than there is followers of hockey. So it's a little silly to come into the thread and dump on people who enjoy talking about celebrity gossip considering how popular it is. That's all. (not saying that you were one of those, but I noticed a lot of comments along the lines of "who cares", that's what I was responding to)

Yep, injured by towels.

Hockey gossip about who is going to be traded where or what team doesnt have good chemistry is the equivalent of celebrity gossip about who is going to be in what future film or if there is infighting on the set of the new ____ movie.
Talking about whether someone has cellulite, is cheating on so-and-so with so-and-so, taking pictures of someone and publishing "stories" and "rumors" and "gossip," etc... is completely different. Just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's not pathetic.
When an industry is based entirely on publishing the shortcoming and faults of famous people, true or otherwise, those that follow and support said industry in anyway (reading the websites, buying the magazines, etc...) are pretty pathetic. Do you enjoy it when Jennifer Aniston put on 10 lbs or when it was revealed that Brad Pitt is leaving with the kids!11!!!1! ??? If so, get a life.
What someone holds out to the public in interviews, movies, TV appearances, biographies, etc... is interesting and fair game to analyze. Gossip and exploiting the private lives of famous people (even in public places) it pathetic.

Um, so you read the part where I said Perez was pathetic, deserved what was coming to him, and I'm glad his 15 minutes of "fame" is expiring? He's a ###### and his website is pretty infantile.
I've fully admitted that I like celebrity gossip and I'm aware that it's mindless. You don't really need to tell me to get a life. I have one. I just enjoy some mindless entertainment from time to time. And I would include my enjoyment of hockey under the "mindless entertainment" category as well.
I'm not really comparing hockey gossip to celebrity gossip. I'm comparing one entertainment industry to another. People enjoy different forms of entertainment. I'm just saying that, in my mind, one isn't really any worse then the other.

Enjoying the exploitation of people in private moments is sick... brainless entertainment or not. If the point is something other than enjoying seeing people suffer/fail/be miserable, I'd like to hear it.
And I'm not confining my criticism just to TMZ or Perez Hilton followers - it applies to an entire industry of tabloids and celebrity gossip. I'm not trying to come across like I don't care about an interview with a celebrity or if I see one in public by chance, because I do. It's not that I don't see the appeal either... it's just wrong.
Those in society that can't allow famous people to retreat into the unknown or hold a public and private life of their own are just losers. They have "lives" just not very good or significant ones.

Well personally, I like to hear/read about the fashion, look at the haircuts, see the make-up... Hear about new albums/movies/TV shows coming out... Most of the celeb guys aren't too shabby to look at... Hear who's getting married, getting divorced, having kids, etc. These are all things that celebrities DO put out there for public consumption. They sell pictures of their babies and weddings to People magazine themselves for cripes sake. For millions of dollars. I watch shows like The Tonight Show... which is pretty much entirely based around Hollywood.
Since I take an interest in this stuff (brainless, dumb, I have no life, etc.), I actually prefer to read a few blogs for free instead of pay $5 at the grocery store for a People or an US magazine. Bloggers gossip about other bloggers, so I read about Perez Hilton getting punched. And I chime in in this thread.
Anyways... pretty far off topic at this point and you're sort of in attack mode re: not having a significant life and being a "sick" person, so I think I'll just stop. I'm probably not going to convince you over the internet that I think I'm a pretty normal girl.

Mostly legit. If a celebrity is publishing something or voluntarily interviewing, this is absolutely something that could be "of interest" to people and that I won't judge.

I'm not saying everything that is connected with celebrities isn't fair game for consumption... my argument is the subindustry that goes around poking into the private lives of individuals and hiding behind the first amendment are scumbags and so are their followers. Reading Perez Hilton's spew is one thing, reading about Perez Hilton getting punched, is another.

I didn't mean to attack you and I apologize. The industry that I hate is fueled by a certain section of the population that rejoices in misery. I find that sad and immoral. I'm a firm believer in privacy regardless of profession. If it wasn't for those that cannot exist without knowing whether or not Lindsay Lohan is a lesbian or doesn't have a "great beach bod" this season, the bottom feeders of the press would die off.
