It's really too bad because he was one of my favorites back in the day, who didn't want a paid of those Oakleys and look like Duval?
Being 38 or 39 I think it is too late for him to be that golfer anymore but he can definitely find himself top 50 in the world if he keeps it up and maybe win some smaller tournaments.
Also is it just me or is anyone else annoyed by Miller and the NBC crew's love fest for Tiger? I understand he is the number one golf in the world and one of the only reasons half the viewers tune in but come on. Tiger is 0-39 (40 now) in majors he isn't leading yet no matter what happened like bogey on number one they kept telling everyone he was ready to shot 62-63. For some reason it was annoying me and I love Tigger.

Actually from what I've read and heard it was success that did him in. He has always thought he had the talent and was being done in by you name it. He thought that when he achieved success on the golf course everything in his life would be rosy. He got there and lo and behold, wonder of wonders, it wasn't any different for him than the day before other than his name was on a couple of trophies. Apparently, though it took him a decade, he has figured out that your job isn't going to bring you happiness. His home life is now settled and and with the far more important end of life taken care of his job is now fun again.

It is pretty cool to see Duval back in the golf limelite - and with an obviously better outlook on life.
Johnny Flame pretty much has the stoy on Duval's fall correct according to what I have heard in the media (they had a guy talking about this on XM's golf channel).

Even when I was watching the US Open over the weekend, I really wanted to see Tiger and Phil and to a lesser extent Duval.
It actually bothers me when jabronis win tournaments, and i'm not talking about one and dones like Weir. When Weir won the Masters he had a really good season. Hopefully Lucas Glover uses this to propel himself into the elite, or the "very good" and doesn't end up on the Nike tour in a few years.

Hope so too. Out of the last few US Open Champions that weren't named Tiger or Phil, only Michael Campbell has fallen off the planet. Cabrera won the Masters, Ogilvy is a top 10 players, Furyk and Goosen are top players and win tournaments too.

Not to mention Padraig buddy who I don't think has ever won a tournament where Woods was entered. As in any tourney not just a major.

Padraig has won the last two British Opens. Tiger was in the first one.

Wait, are you calling a guy who just won 2 British Open's a non-top player? Wow.
I'm not sure where this idea that if you can't beat Tiger you're no good comes from, but it's absolutely ridiculous.

Just looked at Campbell's results out of curiosity, the guy hasn't played a below par tournament since August, and he's only made a few cuts over that time. Not sure if he's been hurt or what, but the numbers jump up dramatically since late last summer.

I took the info off some site that has the record of players that play in tournaments where Tiger is entered. http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=2807056
What I didn't notice was it's only PGA tour events. So they have played in like 70 PGA events(at the time of the article) plus ? majors and Padraig has won once. Not exactly impressive. Interesting is that Weir has five of his wins when Tiger was entered.

I think Padraig doesn't play US style courses well... he's more a links guy.

Might be a career/lifestyle choice I think. When you win the US Open you get a 10 year PGA tour exemption IIRC. Campbell should have been immediately living in the US competing against the best every week. But instead he seems satisfied with his life in NZ and on other tours. He views his US Open win as the pinnacle of his career and is comfortable now.
The opposite would be Vijay Singh. He was hacking it around from one tour to another not unlike Campbell. Even caught cheating at one point. Then he won the PGA Championship got an exemption into the PGA Tour (2-3 years?) and just took off. He's made a bazillion dollars based on one major win.
World players dream of winning a US Major to ensure a lifetime on the PGA Tour. Campbell has this chance but has decided to stay home.

I'm not sure that really explains why he can't break par. He's putting up numbers that wouldn't get him on the nationwide tour, and it didn't start to happen until well after his US open win.

I haven't checked but I will bet it's an injury. Something that has been with him often in his career. Shoulder, back(ongoing) and a really bad wrist injury I remember. I wouldn't be surprised that it's his back acting up again. Basically what has done Els in as he just isn't the same anymore. Heck it could be what does Tiger in.
