A co-worker of mine worked at a Sports shop in Westaskiwin. I guess when the members of the band there turn 18 they get a pretty sizeable cheque and like one may expect of an 18 year old they tend to buy all sorts of stuff they probably didn't need. A couple weeks later they'll hawk it off for whatever they can get. But apparently some guy kept coming by a bit too frequently with nice sets of golf clubs and taking cheap prices they suspected he was swiping them from the course.

A year or two ago I left the garage door about 3 feet open because I was smoking in the garage.
Sure enough I forgot to close it, came back at about 3am, and found that someone had obviously been inside. All the hockey equipment, skis, golf clubs, tools, skateboard etc were still there. Few days later my old man realized that the only things missing were his golf balls. Someone snuck under the door and with all that stuff they stole like $100 worth of golf balls, all of which were free giveaways at golf tourneys. It was actually kind of funny.

Ah... thanks for the offer... but you know how it is with clubs... you really get used to the ones you have and of course you have your favorites within the set.... and then of course there's that new driver you bought last year and you just love (in my case the Taylormade R7), the hybrid or two you picked up to replace those hard to hit 3 and 4 irons, and the lob wedge you just can't do without.
I'd rather just say the heck with it for the rest of the season. It just won't be the same playing with somebody else's borrowed set (thoughtful as that was of them).

What I found really surprising about working at Golf Town, was that clubs replaced by insurance had to be the equal current model of what was stolen.
So for example if someone had old X14's and original Big Bertha stolen, we would replace it with brand new X20's and a new BB.
Kinda surprised me, as realistically the old set may have been worth like 300 bucks, but the customer would walk away with $2000+ worth of clubs by merely paying the deducible.
And absolutely everything is replaced. Ex. 2 gloves, doven pro v's, umbrella, etc. If it was in your bag at the time the insurance company would replace it.
So it may be worth really looking into it further, as it may work out for you that it really is worth paying your deducible and getting a set again.

Rerun: totally understand. it makes me sad to think I lost my clubs as I just got everything where I like it.

I feel lucky, given that I've left my garage door wide-open (the big door, not the side door) twice (once for an entire day, and again for a few hours) and nothing has been taken. Granted, only once did I have anything of any real value in there, but many people nearby have done the same thing with seemingly no problems, but I guess it's just a matter of time.

Yeah dad had this happen when our skis and stuff were stolen from our boat. The insurance company said we'll replace all the stuff that was stolen. Dad asked if he could just take a money settlement since he probably wasn't going to ski anymore. Insurance company said, no you have to go and replace whatever was stolen. So dad walked into a boating store, told them the story, and the guy that was helping him said follow me. Off they go to the fancy ski rack, and dad walks out of there with the best waterski money can buy. I think it's been in the water maybe a dozen times since that happened 8 or so years ago. Moron company haha.
That sucks though Rerun. Hopefully you manage to track them down.

More than anything I hate thieves! Just the thought that they think that its ok to take other peoples stuff..it really makes me want to hurt them. I get furious when my daughters friends take something of hers, I'd be over the top p.o'd if someone went into my garage.

The other day I thought I heard something in the garage, and had an idea- I'm going to put up a sign on the man door saying something like, "smile- you are on camera!"
Because of the location of the garage relative to the house the camera could be anywhere, so even if it just scares the odd person off.....

Maybe you should just give Rerun your address and let him know what time you're not home. That could work out well for all involved.

Actually, I really sympathize with you Rerun. Earlier this month my bike got stolen. I had only had the bike for one month, and because I was really enjoying it I decided to get another bike. Then, my new bike got stolen a week later. Needless to say I'm feeling a touch bitter about this city right now. Two bikes stolen this month...

That really sucks. If someone were to steal my clubs I dont know what I would do as I have a mish mash of what I like throughout the years - alot purchased while on vacation.
I have a Nike 1 Driver - Maui
Calaway 3 Driver
Titlest 5 Driver
Cobra Fairway cheater - Honolulu
Nike 2 Iron
Nike 3 Iron
Calaway 4 Iron
Calaway 5 Iron
Ping 7 Iron - Florida
Ping 8 Iron - Florida
Nike 9 Iron
Calaway Wedge - Victoria
Mizuno Sand Wedge
Ping Putter - Jamaica
Just thinking about this makes me worried that someone might break into my car and steal them from the parkade.

Sounds like my set... a mishmash of all brands that you have used to "customize" your set over the years. I even had 3 new hybrids in my Heinze 57 set. I loved those hybrids (3, 4, and 5).
