I've seen the show on and off...can't watch it regularly because Kate makes me want throw things at my TV. And then what would I watch hockey on?
But this can't come as a shock. Even before all the tabloid attention the past few months, anyone who saw a few shows and watched the couch interviews knew that as soon as Jon figured he could leave without completely ruining lives he would. Eventually he was going to get fed up with be demeaned and treated the way he got treated etc etc etc. And now he has.
Worst part is they are BOTH so darn greedy (and likely wasted most of the money they've made form the show) that they will keep doing the show. That will just makes things worse for the kids. It will be tough enough for them seeing the parents going through a divorce that you don't need a camera crew around all the time documenting the various staged events. Especially when you know they'll force the parents into a room together for birthdays etc.
What's with Kate's hair? Party in the front, business in the back.
Their closing summaries last night were telling...
Jon: "We'll always do what's best for the kids."
Kate: "I just need people to know I tried my best."
I just love how Kate didn't even bother considering the notion that it might be a good idea to end the show and work on her marriage....she may not want to be alone but she has no problem with letting her marriage fall to pieces because she wants to be famous and keep the money & freebies rolling in.

I was secretly hoping that the announcement was the cancellation of the rest of the show to try to gain some sanity. There's apparently not much sanity left with that household.
Thats what boggles my mind, they keep saying they want to do whats best for the children, well how about go to marriage counciling? Garunteed TLC would pay for it.... why not atleast give it a shot? Probably lazy or something.
It's pretty easy to judge these people sitting at our computers. 8 effin kids? I'd probably turn into a bit of an ass too. It's also easy to call them greedy, exploitative and say that the fame killed their marriage. Perhaps they're in a brutally unique situation and the stats caught up to them?
I can't help but put myself in their position ... imagine having two kids, getting pregnant with six more (at the same damn time) and then realizing you'll have no way to support your family. TLC comes knocking and offers up $ ... would anybody here honestly not accept that offer?
People like to say "why aren't they doing this? They're so selfish and lazy!". For Christ sake people, it's a reality show. Does anybody feel like they are actually getting the whole story from a reality show and the tabloids? Who's to say they haven't given it a try?

They've made enough money from the show that they don't have to continue doing this. Why not stop and use that time to fix the marriage?
Jon has said on many occassions that he's had enough of being in the spotlight and wants out. Yet Kate is sooooo into her book tours and showcasing her kids to the rest of the world that she doesn't want to end the show. She loves the fame and fortune and won't let go.
Just have to quote this. Perfect summation of her and her hair.
Hate to pile on Kate because I am sure she isn't nearly as pure evil as Dion would believe, but you could just see her parenting powermom thing took all the fun out of being married to her. He is probably wondering "I should be getting something out of being married to her", after 4 years of not getting any and being told what to do and what you do do is all wrong.
Like that Jack Nicholson movie a while back about his loveless marriage to his wife after retirement "Who is this woman living in my house".
Exactly, it always takes two to tango. Neither is the innocent party in this.
As for the money and how it's required to raise 8 kids... it's sort of a valid point, but they apparently make upwards of $75,000 per episode. Last season (season 4 I think) they had 41 episodes!! Plus all their speaking engagements, Kate's 3 ghost-written books that she promotes, all the freebies they get for product placement on the show, it goes on and on. I get that it takes money to raise 8 kids, but it's been done by families before without tens of millions of dollars. They could've gotten off the gravy train a long time ago to try and sort out the marriage and save the family.
Oh well. They made their choices and now they have to live with them. Still sad for all those kids though. Having your family turmoil play out on TV can't be fun for anybody, let alone when you're 5 and 7 years old and didn't really choose to be involved in any of this (i.e. they didn't sign up for this TV show, their parents did).

I never said he was without fault. He was too passive for so many years which helped to create who she is today. He suddenly develops a backbone and issues with the marriage start to appear plus all the bickering.
He saw what this reality show was doing to thier lives and wanted to stop. Kate however didn't not feel the same way.
Clearly you have 2 people going in opposite directions. Divorce was probably the best solution as communication in the marriage stopped.
