This is such a sad situation. The unraveling of a marriage was gleefully watched by millions of people. It seemed inevitable (Kate seems like a genuinely terrible human being) but was certainly (at least partially) driven by media that are so fixated in their pursuit of headlines that they seem to forget that there are 8 children that will now be living with a single parent (until remarriage or whatever).
Divorce is common in families with "multiples" so while it is possible that it would have happened without the show and the headlines, one cannot help but be disturbed by our fascination with "reality" shows and our ability to disconnect the fact that these are real people with real lives. Jon and Kate did this showto help provide for their children but, in the end, was it really worth it? What are the long term implications for these children?
I didn't even really watch the show but it has become such a recent pop culture phenomenon that it was hard to avoid.

If she is making books, and I assume gets paid well for it, knowing her marriage is in huge trouble, why renew the show for another season?
Shes a bitch.

Kate loves being in the spotlight and Jon has basicly had enough of it. Her huge EGO is lapping it up like a thirsty dog.
Jon hates how the rag magazines take innocent events in his life and twists them to make him look bad. I think he regrets this whole reality TV show.

She is deflecting all the blame for all their problems towards Jon. She doesn't admit admit to having any faults in the marriage, and does her hardest to make herself come across as the victim. Instead she looks very shallow, very bitchy (well, more so than before) and very much in denial that she had a hand in their failed marriage.

It was quite sad how she trashed him during the interviews and Jon basicly didn't reply to her barbs. She says she doesn't understand why he's mad at her, yet the viewing audience can see clear as day why she helped to put an end to the marriage. I doubt her EGO will allow her to do conselling.
The real victims in all this are the kids. They will grow to wonder why mommy and daddy didn't stay together. A terrible thing to do to your kids.

Is it possible that this is all orchestrated? Before this whole controversy, all I knew about them was that they had a reality show. Now they're everywhere. Just think of how much more money is pouring in now, as compared to before. I have a hard time believing any of this is not put on.
Then again, I have never watched the show, so maybe it actually is real. I don't know. I don't care. Why am I posting in this thread?

Oh, they won't have to grow and wonder. It's all documented by TLC for them to have the joy of watching their family fall apart on national TV again and again.
Kate is a controlling bitch. Jon has an alcohol problem and is 33 years old with 8 kids, out running around with college girls. The pair of them are pretty disgusting. I'm sad to say I actually used to enjoy this show back in the first 2 seasons. But then watching the two of them snipe at each other and disrespect each other constantly became intolerable and it was obvious they were just in it for the cash, freebies and fame.
The worst is the had a "vow renewal" last year at some point and Jon & Kate told the kids on camera no less than 5 times how "they were together forever" and "nothing would break up their family" blah blah blah. Basically had their greedy parents lying through their teeth to them for the ratings. Honestly, who goes on TV to announce their impending divorce??!! It's surreal.
Those kids are going to be messed up. It's sad.

Back when I first saw the show (Season 1?) I thought that Kate was a complete bitch the way she always put down Jon. That was on camera. What the heck was she like off camera? I mentioned to my wife back then that this marriage wasn't going to last. No man will put up with that crap forever.

That was such utter BS. TLC kept playing the primer advertising the Vow renewal and it was so contrived it was unbelievable. Quite sickening actually. I lost all respect for those people very quickly.
There's another show on TLC, "Table for 12" where the parent's totally come across as real caring parents; the complete opposite of this pair actually.

Didn't she just have number 19? I think there are five more kids who should be in that picture. Crazy.
On the main topic, I watched Jon and Kate for the first time tonight. I have trouble feeling sorry for either one of them. She seems like a total bitch and he seems like he resents all the responsibility. Neither are going to win parent of the year.

She did most of the snipping like she usually does. I also don't blame Jon for standing up for himself. He was too passive for a lot years and finaly he said enough. She says he won't talk to her but i can see her cutting him down if he opened his mouth. In Kate's world she doesn't see herself as being a part of the marriage break down - it's all Jon's fault.
That running around with college girl's plus the alcohol problem is just the rag magazines looking to cause trouble. Something Jon has talked about repeatedly.
I think initaily they were in it as they saw it as way to finance the cost of raising those 8 kids. Jon has said he's tired of the reality stuff and would love to end this crap. It's Kate and her huge EGO that won't let go. She's caught up in the book deals and being able to showcase her kids to the rest of the world. She loves being in the spotlight.

I will echo the WDF in all of this. It sounds pretty much exactly like the Kate and Peter (i.e. Jordan and Peter Andre) reality show/tabloid drama that's happening here... but the only thing that differs is that Peter is not named Jon and they only have three kids and not eight. I am seriously confused.

The hair. I can't believe anyone would have that hair cut. I am still amazed someone would think that looks good. It screams "I don't want to be touched".

Whenever I watched this with my wife I was always secretly hoping to see Jon completely lose his mind on Kate when she went on one of her tirades - maybe treat her a little bit like she treats him.

I could have sworn that was a joke on the Tonight Show last week (Friday perhaps?).

My wife watches this show periodically, but wanted to watch last nights because of the big announcement promised in it. So I took it in with her. Jon had a line in one of his interviews that sums up your second paragraph pretty well, something along these lines:
"There are soldiers getting killed in Iraq, and people pick up a magazine to find out what I had for lunch."
Watching it I couldn't believe how Kate was in full on spin mode, making everything seem like it had nothing to do with her and that she was the ultimate victim in all of this. From the very little I've seen of this show I had some big rolleyes going!

Well, I guess the one good thing is that 10 or 15 years from now 5 of those kids will be in therapy, one will be a rabid Muslim Extremist and one will probably be a serial criminal, and we'll be able to say, yeah, I knew that was coming.
