Well in their defense, it's very expensive and time consuming to take care of 8 kids. Unless you're somehow outrageously rich and don't work I can see it happening. If they didn't go to TLC, Jon would probably have to work at least 8 hours a day + more if they want to upsize their small house. This would leave kate all alone and the situation would be just as dire.
But I also don't think they should put their life infront of the camera. Just one of those things I wouldn't know what to do if I were them.

I only started to follow the last 4 shows and man, she's a big pain to deal with. Good for Jon, no one deserves to be constantly put down by anyone especially their spouse. Too bad he will probably have to pay child care fees for an eternity.

I suspect the kids have most of the money from the show locked in trust funds.
Kate travels everywhere hawking her ghost written books.
And yes, my goodness, raising kids is hard. Putting them in front of cameras is only a less heinous idea for so long.

Ok, I have seen them all over the magazines at Co-op, Safeway, Superstore now for months and have had one question.
Who in the are these people? I have never heard of them before and now everything being printed has their faces on it. All over TV interviews. Who in the blue hell are they and why are they important to me?

My best guess.
Kate cheated first. (I'm not sure John cheated at all). John has that "my heart's been ripped out and was still beating when you stomped it" look on him for the past 4 months. Kate looks like she's trying not to look ashamed of herself.
SNL had the best line about a possible split. "TLC has two new shows scheduled for next year. John plus 4 and Kate plus 4."

That was when she was still in the hospital after 6 kids, so that wasn't a normal look for her at the time.

Jon got caught hanging out with a younger woman.
And now something that should be in the confessions thread as I know too much...
It's sad really. They would not have the house, the trips, the product placements all around their property, the bike, and everything else if it wasn't for the show. But the show did separate them. Jon got popular with the ladies and saw what his life would be like without a controlling wife. And when he got outed with the other woman, that effectively ended it. No marriage counciling, just papparazzi.

What's with mom's with 8 kids and being crazy...

I've watched this show since it started, and this season is a train wreck. She is a complete bitch, and he just seems so distance. I'm sure they both played a huge part in the divorce. I can say that Kate blamed Jon for working WAY to much in the early years, and now she takes off for weeks on a book deal. If she is making books, and I assume gets paid well for it, knowing her marriage is in huge trouble, why renew the show for another season?
Shes a bitch.

From what little i watched Kate came across as a controling and manipulative woman. She also liked to belttle Jon at every chance she could. Jon finally standing up for himself meant the end of the marriage. He wasn't going to put up with her demeaning behaviour anymore.
Frankly, I think Kate would be a very difficult person to live with. I highly doubt any man worth his salt would want to live with a controling woman like that.
