Default Anyone go for morning swims? Looking for a good pool

I live in the SW and have decided to start swimming lengths 4 or 5 mornings a week.

Does anyuone know of any good pools that...

a) Don't charge too much
b) isn't too far from Elbow and Anderson
c) Isn't really busy, ie: you can walk in any morning and know you'll get a lane, and not have to wait

Thanks in advance....Unless no advice is given, then FU all in advance.

I always liked the diving pool at Southland Leisure Centre. I haven't been there since the renos though.

Move to High River. We have a lane swim program that runs every morning, mid afternoon and evening

Sweet, have you been there in the mornings? Is it pretty open?

I'm going to be like the big city version of small town parasites.

Oh great, here comes that big city guy again. He just comes here to use our hospitals, rec facilities and bike paths, and then goes back to Calgary so he can have the traffic headaches, bustle and overpopulation of the big city. Damn freeloader.

Nah, but I like to drop the kids off at the pool before I go to work.

I haven't done it in a year. When i did go it was quite open. A 3 month pass to the pool is $107 and it's a salt water pool also. Ohhh and it runs from 6 to 9AM - Monday thru Friday

http://www.highriver.ca/LinkClick.as...id=362&mid=927

We welcome freeloaders as they help to keep our facilities running. Especialy our hockey rink.

I'm lucky my parents are a 10 minute drive away and I can use their pool. It's also salt water instead of chlorinated which is far better. I might start taking advantage of it a lot more.

The Canyon Meadows Pool is right next to E.P. Scarlett. It's where I learned how to swim many moons ago.

20 years ago it fit your criteria. I don't know if it still does (but I'd assume it does).

Here's the info for it: http://content.calgary.ca/CCA/City+L...e+Features.htm

Oh yeah, it's there and upgraded. The couple of times I went there, you had to sit and wait at the end of someone's lane until they left....and then when you finally got a lane, you would have someone sitting there, staring at you while they waited for your lane.....and then all of a sudden, a class full of high school kids all come running in screaming and being annoying.

No not really, we were just discussing earlier how my friends kid fell off the waterslide at Deerfoot Inn last year, fell 30 feet onto concrete and almost died and reference was made to the parents not watching/kid being stupid....he was accidentally pushed by another kid.

I hated swimming as a kid. Bad combination of cold water and mean instructors. Not to mention having to do like a hundred laps and then treading water for 5 minutes. I felt like throwing up every time and then having to shower with 60 year old men that are butt naked. After that stepping into the freezing cold winter and my hair would freeze. The worst part was sometimes my Mom couldn't pick me up and I would have to bus back. Swimming lessons were probably some of the worst things I have remembered as a child.
We should ban swimming lessons or at least get them to raise the darn temperature!!!

I also tried swimming at the VRRI... that was horrid. They would make you stick your head into the water where it was smoking hot and the water was very filthy. All the kids in my swim class all pissed in the pool. Simply disgusting.

Are you sure you got swimming lessons or were you being waterboarded?

So what do you early morning swimmers do? Get up at 5AM, go for a few laps (how many metres do you swim?), get out, shower, goto work?

Personally, I'm not working right now, so I'll likely go home after, take a nap, then head out for a bike ride. But you'd be surprised what some people do before work. I have a buddy who used to work around McLeod and Anderson, and he lived in Okotoks. He'd get up, go to the pool and swim some lengths, then get on his peddle bike and bike from Okotoks to work everyday, and then bike back home too obviously.

I just started swimming last week to help with the swelling in my feet.

I bought a 10 pack at the tier 1 City Pools and it cost me around $43. It looks like you can do a "build-a-pass" for a month that costs around the same amount.

I go to the Glenmore pool and during the week before 10 am it's totally dead... maybe 5 people in the whole pool. I had to share a lane on Sunday, but at least he knew what "circles" were (swim up the rope, down the middle) That might be a little far for you.

Funny thing is: it doesn't feel like a 25 meter pool. I would say it's a little short. But I guess it doesn't matter if you're swimming for time instead of length.

I can't post how far I swim right now because if any of my old swim team hears how slow I am, they'll laugh at me! (No excuses for being preggo and having 40 pounds of drag screwing up my backstroke) But at least I'm still passing all the 70 year old side strokers!
