Rangers Draft Review nothing but risky 3rd's
This year the Rangers had nothing but 3rd rounders..... attempts were made to move up but it was to costly.
In the third its a crap shot at best....
#66 Anton Lander
CPHL Rangers GM "had a list of players and thought he would go earlier when he fell to #66 spot, we were pleased...."
"From the THN"
When ever Sweden goes into an international tournament in Anton Lander's age group. He usually ends up with the "C" on his sweater. Its a development that doesn't surprise the people who see how carries himself.
"He's the Captain of Sweden for a reason - high, high Character" a scout said. "He gets results through hard work and Character".
A scout once suggested the worst thing about guys who are good in the room is they often insist on playing around on the ice as well. But thats not a problem with Lander. He is certainly not a liability but rather a detail oriented, potential two way Center.
Those are the attributes that some scouts say will make him an NHL player for a very long time.
#68 David Gilbert
"From the THN"
The scouts like what they sometimes see with David Gilbert. They'd just like to see a lot more of it.
"His best shift is pretty good but he doesn't bring it all of the time" a scout said. "He's a finesse player with skill. but he has to learn to play ever shift the same way."
A team with good development coaching will gladly take him in the second round.
#82 Benjamin Conz (Goalie)
CPHL Rangers GM "Was looking for a goalie... he is a guy who has upside......"
"From the THN"
Switlerland is something of a goaltending factory, but the quality of the product has been up and down.
That could change with Benajmin Conz who took over the #1 job with Genveve-Servette when the top goalie went down with a knee injury.
Playing in a leage with veterans and a lot of imports, Conz acquitted himself well with a save % of .909.
Things weren't quite as good at the WU18 championships where Conz was bombarded by shots on a weak Swiss Entry.
#86 Marcus Folingo
LW, Sudbury OHL
#91 Sergei Chvanov
CPHL Rangers GM "with my last pick of the 09 draft, I took my highest risk selection and took a talented Russian......."
"From the THN"
If you Looking for the next Pavel Bure don't look to find him in Sergei Chvanov. But if you're seeking a player with character and an ability to create offense he is your man.
The Captain of the Russian team at the WU18 Championships.
Chvanov doesn't fit the mould of the tradational Russian player. But that hasn't hurt his standing with scouts.
