Default Airfare deal wanted

I am in the process of booking the family pilgrimage to Disney world. Airfare is murderous. Does anyone know anyone with connections to the airline industry or access to particularly good deals? Anyone have any tips for saving on airfare? We are a family of 6 so savings (or costs) can quickly multiply.

If you are looking for flight deals, and you are travelling with kids and lots of luggage! DO NOT fly with Air Canada!!!! Take westjet, and look in the afternoon times for flight deals! you won't find many in the morning and evening! Good luck and have fun!

Yes....this was some of the hard education I have been absorbing. Desireable flight times vary inversely with desireable prices.

Supply and demand.

Have you checked the usual discount places, expedia, flightcentre, redflagdeals, priceline etc?

I think I have hit most of the usual online suspects. The good news? I can get a slightly better rate if I want to fly on completely different days than my hotel bookings.

Westjet has 15% off all flights booked by tomorrow at midnight for travel by Oct 7 I believe.

EDIT: SOrry, canadian destinations only.

EDIT again: Cheapest I've seen, just looking around is $2800USD for 6 people for a week in july. What are the dates you're looking for?

May we ask why not to fly with Air Canada? Are they the world's best airline, no, but they are usually comparable to most north american airlines in terms of pricing and service.

August 9 - 23. Yeah...weekend flight required...not the most affordable option.

http://farecast.bing.com is actually a good place for online deals - it also tells you whether you should buy the tickets or wait based on past history.

Some in the clan made that suggestion....I would rather arrive on vacation sane and without having killed any members of the family. Homicide and insanity are serious downers on family vacations.

Get TLC to create a TV show about you and your family. Use the royalties to fly to Disneyland.

have you gone onto the offical westjet site? or going through booking agencies? Ive always found my flights on the actual website, and looked for them starting about 1 or so in the afternoon. Also, if you sign up on email, they will send you notifications of when seat sales come on. A friend of mine also said that they have seat sales at like midnight sometimes!

You might want to look into flying out of an American airport.

Unfortunately, Calgary isn't a quick drive to a big US airport, but you might be able to find a connecting flight out of an airport in Montana that might be worth the drive.

After consulting the various sites and services, flights have now been booked. Thanks to all who weighed in with suggestions.

They are no better or worse than anybody else in that regard. I have had bags lost with Westjet, AC, and a couple of American carriers as well. If that's your only reason for not flying AC, its not a good one. It is frustrating to arrive and not have your bags arrive with you, believe me I know. However it only happens every now and then. No one is perfect, tell me you have never made a mistake. When my bags were lost they were returned to me the next day, aggravating but still not too bad.

As for looking for airfare, I have looked at the usual's (Expedia, Westjet, AC, AA, United) and not very many good deals right now I think you may just have to be at the right place at the right time to find a cheap fare.

My bag was delayed and they gave me $100 voucher...

WestJet knows how to do business... because Air Canada has never done that with me.
