I agree with posters here, Fuel was a quality radio station.

But what's with the lack of radio station variety here in Calgary?

Why don't we have a true hip hop/urban radio station? Why don't we have an electronic/house/trance/dance radio station?

Living in New Zealand we had like 3 or 4 electro radio stations!

It pains me to say that Edmonton has better radio stations than us.

Radio is terrible in general, but i could stand this one for short periods, still not too dissapointed. Ross and Frasier annoyed the hell out of me.

I used to think this was the case back in the 90s Calgary had 700 000- 800 000 people, but nowadays we are pushing 1.1 million and still have the same variety.

Definitely. What is the explanation for this? How does a Canadian city of the same size have much better radio than us?

Apparently their format is staying. They're just 'revamping' under 'amp radio'. I'll give it a try, but I swear if it's got a dance beat or chad Krapper singing, it's gone, and I'll hope it fails.

Well, they have one. Sonic is what X929 should be.

The rest of Edmonton's radio is the same generic crap we've got.

I was just listing to Fuel and they are really pushing the "tomorrow at 6pm we will be AMP playing all the hits"

Great.......

And I thought this thread was going to be all about the price of gas and how it will never again be 90.3.......

If it turns out to be anything like The Eagle or XL I'm going to write a strongly worded letter.

The format is not staying.
Every indication is that the station is being modeled after Amp radio in LA.

It will be going head to head with Vibe. Could make for an interesting fight. I would put my money on Vibe.

I will say that the Bear is miles ahead of CJAY. The musical isn't is stale for one thing, but the station in general has so much more personality.

I really hope this new format isn't like VIBE. VIBE is the biggest hunk of crap out there for radio. Someone that I work with tries to play it for hours at a time and every single song has the same synthesized voice (a-a-a-alcohol) and is a mix of some crappy 80's song. Worst radio station ever.

As a side note, I think it's funny that apparently everyone hates all the radio stations that clearly do well. Apparently on the internet, as opposed to real life, the most vocal 10% get nothing done.

I just looked over some numbers.
The number one spinning song on Vibe played 57 time last week. That's 8 times a day on average or every 3 hours. If you think that's a lot.....
The number one spinning song on Amp in Los Angeles played 128 times last week. That's 18 times a day or every 1.3 hours.
If you think Vibe was repetitive wait until you hear this...

Isn't Amp the format that replaced the FM all-talk station KLSX in LA that had Adam Carolla, Danny Bonaduce, Frosty, Heidi and Frank, Tom Leykis and more?

You know, I can't really agree to that. The Bear plays less classic rock, which is good, but otherwise I've found their playlist is no different. I also find the personalities to be bland. CJAY's morning show is crap because Gerry Forbes is annoying as hell. The Bear's is crap because Paul Brown is boring as hell.

Gillian Foote has some nice... assets... however. Totally wasted on the radio.

Mornings shows are a wash I suppose. Fearless Fred is an original unique talent in the afternoon. He is gone to Toronto next month though. The Bear has the ability to appeal a little younger. That works for me.
