For me, that is absolutely to much to pay for a cell phone. But I have had one since the 1st week that the 3G iPhones were available. I still only make about four or five calls on it a month.

But I consider it a kick ass web enabled PDA. And for that, I consider it worthwhile. Seamless integration with Google email, contacts, and calendars is worth the price alone.

The thing about the iPhone, is that it has so many extremely useful features that you only have to use a couple of them for it to be really worthwhile (e.g. GPS, iPod, tethering, PDA, and oh yeah, it's a phone too).

I just got a new iPod classic to house the music, movies etc that won't fit on my tiny 8 gig 3G. Part of me kind of regrets it now as the thought of the 32 gig 3Gs is boneriffic. But knowing Rogers and ordeal I went through upgrading last time, I'm probably best served by waiting until the next iPhone post 3Gs.

So after reading that is there a way to put apple apps off of home screen? Or only if you need more than 11 pages of home screen?

I have a Blackberry from work that I have to carry with my like a leash so that also adds to the problem.

For me the problem is I have never been a PDA person. I tried the Dell Axim and never used it. And now with a Blackberry I just either email myself things to do, or put in crazy calendar reminders, or add notes (I currently have 74) things like grocery list, music list, movie list, games list, etc

The only fucntion I really want on the iphone that I cannot get on the Blackberry is the ability to remote logon to the servers I support. There have been times where I have been out to dinner and someone calls me to do something, it would be hanndy not to rush through dinner to have to go into the office or home.

I may not understand the question. Do you mean just moving apps like stocks off the main screen and onto another? If so, you've always been able to do that. Delete them no, but move them yes.

I've found that the chat window will open up when you are have finished selecting all of your plan features and just about to finalize the order.

I've chatted with 'Sara' a few times now and generally I have received the canned responses. However, if you ask certain types of questions, it is clearly a human as I've had to decipher many a spelling error.

I've scoured the site for leads but is there truly a benefit over Fido vs. Rogers with the iPhone plans?

Based on the 3G prices and monthly packages available, it looks like Fido is the clear winner considering they do not charge the SAF. The availble plans look quite similar but I keep hearing about people getting ready to call Rogers to set up their new phone, not Fido (at a cheaper monthly rate + same price for phone)

Am I missing something?

from that website forum above

• there is no limit to the number of apps that can be installed (beside storage space). once you reach the home screen limit, apps installed after that are installed without an icon but can be accessed in spotlight. below 67 of the 203 apps are not shown on the home screen. you can also use this to hide any apple application (i.e. weather and stocks) (found by The General)

I have three pages of apps, does anyone here actually have eleven?

So I managed to get tethering to work by browsing on my iPhone to http://help.benm.at and installing the Rogers profile. This post brought to you by 3G.

I suspect that OS 3.0.1 will very quickly be released to disable installation of carrier settings.

iPhone upgrade info now available on Rogers website
http://tinyurl.com/nfjeel

That's not a brutal deal for iphone 3g users in my opinion. It's not great, but it's at least doable for the hardcore.

I still can't figure out why I'm eligible to upgrade as I purchased mine in July of last year. My inability to get a solid answer makes me paranoid that I'm not eligible at all. I'd also like to know that if I did upgrade this year if I'd be eligible to upgrade again next year when apple inevitably does this all again. My gut feeling is that I would not be.

I'm starting to wonder if the smart move would be to just stick with the 3g for another year. The 3gs is awesome and all, but it's not mind blowing. Apple has released a new version each year, so it isn't crazy to think they'll do it next summer as well. I'd hate to upgrade to a 3gs and not be able to upgrade next year to a phone with much cooler features. Ah the plight of the early adopter.

No but I am old enough to be a parent of the average age around here. I'm pretty good with computers for someone of my age and am trying to learn as much as I can. The good folks here have been great and I've learned lots in the tech section. I'll continue to read and ask questions. Feel free to put me on ignore if this bothers you.

Not to fight his battles but I am almost positive Kermit did not mean his question to be demeaning or insulting. He is a developer so this tech stuff is second nature to him. Maybe you could explain the intricacies of bond pricing or how to run a municipality to him. We all know something about something. The wise know that we don't know everything.

For what its worth I agree. I think kermit was making a joke, not burning anyone. Furthermore the more time goes on the more surprised I am at the 'average age' of the board. I think it is much older than people assume and that is easily a good thing.
