I think the problem is this tournament isn't that important and the U-21s are playing in the U-21s tomorrow!
Iaquinta simply isn't that useful as a wide winger, and you'd think Lippi would know that. Rossi has to start though, there's no doubt about it.

Camoranesi, as much as it pains me as a Juve fan, is simply finished. He's a shadow of what he was even a year ago.

Makes sense that the U21s go to the superior tournament this time, I just hope that the top guys there are quickly integrated into the NT.

Hahaha, that's Galvao from the national channel Globo. They show all Brazil's big games and have played that jingle every time they score for the last 20 years at least. It's cheesey.

The way perenial favourites like Brazil, Argentina and Italy are going it makes me think the World Cup next year is really up for grabs for a traditionally lesser team to win. The early favourites look to be Spain, the Germans and perhaps England or France but maybe an underdog (like Chile ) can step up and make noise! haha. Seriously though, it is up for grabs.

Random question but why does FIFA have a U20 tournament but the current U21 tourney is UEFA sponsored? Obviously the UEFA tourney is just European nations, I'm more curious as to why they aren't both U20 or U21 tourneys

I would like to see Spain win it, considering they have one of the best international sides in their country's history. If Argentina doesn't fire Maradona as manager they're setting themselves up for a very disappointing world cup. England, will again have an all around strong team but will most likely collapse as they always do, which is unfortunate because with the number of quality players they have, they should have won it already.

Brazil, I love watching this team play. They can come into any tournament and do enough to only manage a spot past the first round and then play themselves into form as they make it to the semis. As much as I don't like how they're looking right now you can never count them out.

Difference in philosophy really. UEFA thinks that there's better quality in having slightly older players. Makes it a little messy for them when they have to jump from one to the other, essentially having to field the U19s, which might explain why some of the "better countries" (England, Italy, Germany, France, Holland) didn't have entries in the U20 World Cup.

UEFA tourneys are a lot better anyway. FIFA ones get too watered down with lousy teams.

Don't forget the African teams on home soil. Teams like Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire and who knows even the hosts South Africa could make some noise.

I predict an African semifinalist next year

The African teams are pretty good. World Class players all over Europe. I don't think they'll need help like a crap South Korean team.

Hey Italy U-21 playing right now on The Score. First time I've seen this team play. Now I can match faces to all the names you always mention

Yeah, there's definitely some talented African players, it wouldn't be a South Korea type scandal, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get some preferential treatment.

I'm pretty jealous, I can't get to a TV, but these guys are pretty exciting. Rossi typically plays with them, and fits really well with Giovinco and Acquafresca.

You'd think somewhere along the line someone would have changed that.

"No, no, it's pronounced SchweinHAGER."

This Spain/Iraq game is pretty good, the Iraqis are hanging in there against them, although the highlights are pretty one-sided. Still 0-0 at half.

I have the liberty to stay home tomorrow morning for a few hours before work so I am going to stay and watch Brazil play the US. That should be a good game.
