Default Installing old harddrive in new PC

Hey guys,

I bought a new computer a couple days ago. It has arrived with Vista pre installed on the hard drive.

Can i put the hard drive from my old computer into the new computer as a second hard drive without formatting it first?

I don't want to have to transfer the old files (music, pics, etc.) onto an external hard drive and then over. The old hard drive has XP on it, but i don't want to boot from it at all, I just want access to my old files.

Is that possible? And what do i need to do?

Thanks!

Pretty sure you can, yes. Your boot sequence will already be set to look at your primary driver for your O/S first, second drive will show up as just that.

Mind you, the last time I did this, it was on an XP machine.
