I thought Starsky and Hutch was severely underrated. I think it was always doomed to be a failure, based on hype of it being both the first Stiller-Wilson vehicle since Zoolander, and Todd Phillips' first movie coming off of Old Schools' insane success. And I'd agree it doesn't measure up to either of those lofty standards.

But for straight-up weirdness and self-aware ridiculousness, Starsky and Hutch was hysterical:
"Do it. Do it. Do it."
"That's not a kid, it's a tiny little man!!!"
"That's funny. All you guys look alike to us.... Orientals."

Sheer brilliance!

I guess I view The Hangover as sort of the antithesis to Starsky and Hutch - I think (and this is just my own opinion) the hype is causing people to overrate The Hangover - because everyone wants it to be the funniest movie ever; whereas the hype caused everyone to underrate S&H, because it wasn't Zoolander II.

But it is part of the story. I guess my question is more the regarding the sequence of events - The china man went from casino (where they stole his purse), to amicably banging a hooker in the back seat of their car, to buck-naked-kidnapped in the trunk of their car.

You're basing the fact that The Hangover wasn't funny on it not being believeable, yet you use Observe and Report as an example of a funny movie (which presumably means you think it rings true).

Whoa. You are jumping to conclusions. First of all, I think Observe and Report was extremely underrated. It was a spoof and a commentary on violence and the psychology behind "heroes" in films. Obviously, the actual scenes in Observe and Report were not realistic but it's commentary was very poignant. SPOILER ALERT For example, when Rogen let's his Latin colleague teach him "his way" of being a security guard and it ends up being beating up little kids, doing coke in the bathroom, and stealing things, I was laughing harder than I have in theaters in a long time. This scene points out that there really is some dark psychology behind action movies. It attacks the audience and the action genre in general by taking a bit farther than anyone is comfortable with. I love comedies and films in general that take risks and go places that others won't. /SPOILER ALERT

Perhaps I was too hard on the Hangover. I went with my girlfriend and two buddies but we were late so we had to sit apart. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was with the guys after drinking a few, rather than sober and with my girlfriend. I also went after reading some good reviews so I had pretty high expectations. I should have gone in with the expectations of seeing an Adam Sandler type movie.

I enjoyed Galifinakis. His wolf speech and his best friends song was funny. But I didn't really like the other characters enjoyable or interesting besides Ed Helms and only ocassionally. I would have probably enjoyed the movie more if Vince Vaughn took the place of Bradley Cooper, who I can't stand. I realize it's not a movie to be taken seriously but I found it to be silly without the irony of the king of silly, Anchorman.

I'll give a second viewing though with a better attitude.

Saw it last night, I quite liked it but didn't think it was as funny as many others did.

I've seen 3 Todd Phillips movies, The Hangover, Old School, and Road Trip, and I think I found this to be the least funny first time watching it.

Of the three, I liked Road Trip the best, which I imagine wouldn't be a common opinion since of my group of friends I think I'm the only one who liked Road Trip more than Old School.

Just got back from seeing it. I thought it was brilliant and give it a 9/10. It's a summer comedy movie and it filled its role perfectly.
However, unlike some other comedic movies, I don't think this one will be that funny the second time around.

Just saw it today. I specifically avoided going through this thread so I wouldn't get my hopes up for it, and I'm glad I did; I probably would've been more disappointed.

It was pretty funny at parts, but definitely not brilliant. It seemed like they were trying to go along with the same style as Judd Apatow or Kevin Smith but kind of missed the mark. It definitely wasn't very clever and most of the humour wasn't character based but seemed rather to be gag based (like Family Guy). The exception probably being Alan who was the best part of the movie. Ed Helms was pretty good too. I'd rank it behind Role Models and Observe and Report for comedies this year though. Like someone else mentioned, it was more on par with Starsky and Hutch.

Good, but overrated. 6/10

I hate it when they do sequels/prequels to movies like this. It was a one time thing. It was like when they made the prequel to dumb and dumber (no im not comparing the hangover to dumb and dumber), seconds of these types of movies rarely work. Just leave them alone, use the same guys to make a different comedy movie ( ala Old School, Starsky and Hutch, Wedding Crashers etc..)

Yes, and it was awesome. Observe and Report was ok, but it was a bit of a let down. I like Seth Rogen and Ana Ferris, so I was hoping for better with that one.

The Hangover was awesome. I went with somebody seeing it for the 3rd time. One of the funniest movies I have seen in a very long time. Better than Road Trip, Pineapple Express and Knocked up. It was on par with Old School.

I don't watch much TV and when I do change the channel during commercials, so most gags weren't spoiled for me. GREAT FLICK!

Though when my sister brought Doug home I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack, it grew by one. So there was two of us in the wolf pack, I was alone first in the pack and then doug joined later. And six months ago when Doug introduced me to you guys, I thought "wait a second could it be?" and now I know for sure I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves running around the desert together in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!

Finally saw it last week-end.

I really like Todd Phillips so I was pretty hyped for this one. I thought The Hangover was good, but not great. I liked it, but didn't love it. Maybe my expectations were too high though... As a reference point, for me it's not quite as funny as Old School.

All that said, I thought Ken Jeong (Mr. Chow) was worth the price of admission. Absolutely hilarious. Dr. Ken steals it in everything he does and was so funny in this. Everyone seems to think Galifianakis is the break-out star... I thought he was merely ok. Jeong is the guy to watch imo...

For example, Dr. Ken had a scene in 'Knocked Up' which was the funniest moment of the film for me (I think this is a deleted scene):
