Icon42 EJ is leaving on a Jet Plane....

And on his way to the City of Brotherly Love. No big shock there considering the Flyers have done the lions share of the trading this off season. Erik Johnson is on the way to Philadelphia in exchange for big Braydon Coburn, prospect Logan Couture and the Leafs 1st rounder in this years draft.

Why?

EJ is a great kid, but missing a year really hurt his progress, hence no rerate this year. We also think he's be a injury risk this upcomming season with a lower DU. Coburn is a big, solid defender who played a ton of minutes for the NHL Flyers this year and we think he's still got some upside. Couture is the top prospect for the Sharks. He's a kid that has talents at both ends of the ice. He's just finished junior and will be starting his first full year of pro this upcomming seaon. The 1st rounder is just nice to have and will possibly be used to further improve the team

You guys actually traded with each other? Wow. lol

In terms of the trade, Blues win it this year for sure and maybe next year. Long term (2-3 years down the road) Philly probably wins it.

Well he's safer on a Jet Plane than on a golf cart. I guess the Flyers did get their AHL defenceman they wanted!

Pitbull wins again.

With our top 4 of Kronwall-Pitkanen-Suter-Edler we can afford to give EJ another year to development and play on the bottom pairing with Babchuk. Hes still on his rookie deal for 2 more seasons, which was one of the key factors in my decision.

We now have have cap space in order to acquire one more top 6 forward.

Whos got one?

I like this move more for the Blue personally. There's definitely some implied risk with Johnson and his knee injury, and Coburn is a solid Top 4 d-man who could have some untapped potential. At this point in their careers, there isn't a lot of difference between Erik Johnson and Braydon Coburn....so to throw in Couture and a 1st rounder seems like a good deal for the Blues.

Yea I like this for STL as well. Coburn is better than Johnson right now and if he continues to play big minutes he could be rated high 70's for a while. Johnson has the potential to be rated higher but probably not for 2-3 CPHL seasons. Philly had an awesome defense but they've moved Coburn and Suter so now they might have to make some more moves to improve that position again, although I'm sure Philly won't have a problem making more moves.

This seems more like an NHL deal. In the CPHL though coburn will be higher then EJ all this year and likey the same or higher next year. So the Flyers don't see any benefit for a couple years at least and they also give up a decent prospect and a 1st. I like this from the Blues perspective but at the same time to obtain someone like EJ with his name recognition and potential you have to expect to pay a lot.

I looked at it as 2 options.

Option 1: Have awesome defense and okay goalie.

Option 2: Have a decent defense and an awesome goalie.

So from what I've read and heard so far, the new sim lets best players play up to their potential so securing a top netminder was a priority.

after these trades, Im gonna need a second pair dman.

Kronwall-Pitkanen
XXXXXX-Edler
Johsnon-Babchuk

I think is still one of the better d cores out there. So not too worried.
