I love how Earl's eyes are always closed in photographs. It's so funny. I shot a wedding where a groom was like that. Reminds me of him.

These shows (Earl, The Office, etc.) that have no laughtrack are called 'Filmed Comedies.' I don't have any stats to back me up but it seems like the old sitcom format is being phased out in favor of this style. I like it. Maybe the networks are finally realizing that people are smart enough to know when something is funny? Which is nice- I get to decide what to laugh at, unlike with sitcoms, where pretty much everything that happens is followed by laughter, no matter how unfunny.

Al Bundy: Peg, what did you do with my newspaper?
Peg: I think I threw it in the garbage this morning.
Laughtrack: Uproarious Laughter

I too was sure that My Name Is Earl was destined for failure. I figured it would be too 'out there' more the mainstream, but I guess the show has a sort of universal appeal. Who couldn't love it? (and Jaime Pressly is super hot)

I only ever watch Earl when I'm waiting for the Office to show up.

Counter-point is Arrested Development.

But Earl is a good show. As is The Office. Different kind of funny, both very worth watching.

I really don't like this show at all. I find TPB a much funnier similar type of comedy.

Trailer Park Boys is a completely different type of comedy than My Name is Earl. MNIE isn't filmed documentary style nor do the characters converse with the camera. MNIE has consistent running commentary throughout and it is shot film style.

Yes, however it is very similar in style to the Office. It's funny that I am following the trend here. My favourite and only shows that I consistently watch are The Office, MNIE, and TPB and Arrested Development whenever I can find it. I hope mainstream America doesn't catch on to these shows because the next thing we know every single ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC sitcom will be cancelled and very bad versions of these shows will be on air from 6-9 Monday through Fiday and completely ruin the genre.

A little bump, curious what everyone thinks. Earl has been canceled despite an attempt to move it to TBS: http://www.reuters.com/article/enter...55B03A20090612

I stopped watching the show last season after a Cracked article about some of the cast being Scientology members. Plus it was just getting less funny

Crap, another good show bites the dust. Several episodes were somewhat weak this year, but overall the show was pretty damn funny and had good actors. Season finale with Little Chubby was just awesome.

Too bad the show ended with a "to be continued" cliffhanger...
