Hardwood floor cleaner, what do you use?
You know the spray stuff you use to spray on and then use one of those thin (microfibre?) mops to wipe it off? The stuff we got with our floor ran out finally and we started using this Zep stuff I think from Home Depot, it leaves a filmy residue and doesn't look very nice.
Anyone suggest something better to use? Or how do you keep your hardwood floors clean, the newer ones you find in newer houses (not the finished in place ones)?

Our hardwood dude told us just to use a rag dampened with water on a swiffer to clean the floors. Works well for a once over every week.

We used to suggest using 2/3 Warm Water and 1/3 Vinegar back when I was working service and repairs.

We've used two different ones. The Pledge brand is pretty good but can be a little slippery.
I can't remember the name of the other brand off the top of my head. It's a European sounding name and I think it starts with 'B.' It's the one we got from the installers when the floors were first installed. Comes in a while bottle. Great stuff.

Never use water on hardwood floors.
Most flooring dealers sell hardwood mop and cleaners manufactured by Bona. I'd start there. It's what I use at home also.

go buy a steam mop. There are many different types but you can get them for well under $100. No chemicals (if you have kids and dogs this is important) and a great clean. Almost effortless. IT doesn't wet the wood. The moisture it does add is actually good for the wood.
I like the topless maid idea much better though. I think it would a tough sell to my wife though

On topic, we use the damp swiffer method too ... even a damp dust mop will work. It seems to me swiffer might make a special product for hardwood floors too.
When the floor gets really nasty, we wet mop it using as little water as possible and follow up with a towel or dry, clean dust mop to dry it to avoid streaking. This process works best with two people so one person can follow up and dry the floor with the towel or mop before it air dries and leaves streaks.
