No amount of rain can possibly ruin camping for my girl and I. Whenever we roll, we put the topper on the Ranger and bring a big-ass battery and inverter. That way if the weather sucks too much for a tent, we just set-up in the back of the truck! And with power we can watch movies as well as boil water in a kettle for coffee.

Or keep a mini-bar powered the whole weekend, if I ever get one.

Generally, it hasn't rained for more than a few hours camping, which is more than enough time for a movie, game of chess, or just testing out my new shocks.

Pfffft I don't need the pile, just give me a flat surface, even relatively flat

120 minutes for a movie, 55 minutes for a chess game and 5 minutes to test the shocks. That is a quick review of TA's few hours of rainy camping.

I like how only a few hours later Friday will be hotter but higher chance of rain. Bah.

Hard to tell from that view if you are face down, also it looks to me like that is sleeping, not passed out.

That was the time I slept on the island, not the time I was face down in the creek...

Actually, that was my first missed opportunity to use strikethrough. I didn't so much sleep as I did doze for a couple minutes and then frantically wake up to see if the fire was still going.

to me rain only ruins camping if you're trying to setup in it.

Actually, just a quick word of advice from CP
Is it a bad idea to be camping in Banff this weekend?
20-23 during the day, and 6 at night

mainly worried about at night, not sure if 6 was too cold or not for camping

Depends on your gear dude. Personally, I like that forecast.

It's 10x worse when you're camping in 35 degree weather in Invermere and it's still hot as balls all night.

Got good gear for it, but my gf is a first time camper. I got those heating pads for her and we'll be sleeping on one of those inflatable queen size air mattresses.
Trying to get her into this whole Alberta wilderness and camping idea, rather than the cottage and lakes she's use to in Ontario

You'll be fine, but those air mattresses are horrible for insulation. I'd throw some of that blue foam (camping rolls or whatever) on top of the mattress and maybe even below or you'll be cold.

See if your sleeping bags have temperature ratings on them. Mine is +5 rated, if you are close to your rating bring an extra blanket just in case.

Agree with this, except I'll add that I hate packing up wet stuff too.

Once you're set up with tarps and everything, the rain is a non-factor. In fact, the cooler weather keeps the ice in your cooler ice for a longer period of time.

Not that camping in hot dry weather isn't better.

Yeah, definitely all the cold comes up from the mattress. We put some old sleeping bags underneath us and then actually sleep in the good ones to help with this problem.

+6 shouldn't be too bad. 0 or below and I really start noticing it though.

This air mattress, is it one of those foot-thick ones or is it one of those canvas ones for the beach? The big beach ones are perfect to use as a bed. Just put a blanket or two down first, then use a heavy blanket on top.
Peanut, you and your old man sleep in separate sleeping bags? Half the fun of sleeping outside is the necessary use of body heat to keep warm. I always just bring my heavy duvet.

One of those foot deep blue ones from Zellers (~$30 + foot pump)
I was just going to lay 1 sleeping bag down as a bed spread and use the heavy duty sleeping bag as a blanket and supplement with one or several blankets.
And I agree 4x4, body heat sharing is important when camping
